says tbe way to maintain tto gold re-
serve ia tbe treasury is to stop tbe
deficit ia the revenues. This is a
straage proposition coming from that
soeree. From tto close of the war
aatil the McKinley law became opera-
tive there was no deficit ia the rev-
eaees. From that time until tbe day
tto bill sras repealed the- s was aotb

tbe stttasmsnsblp of the country. Nut
ia lefto the McKinley law was enacted
aad tbe eoaditioa was changed. In
three years the surplus waa exhausted

cit amounting to mora thaa 50000.-

amounted to more thaa 50000000 a

For Governor McKinley to comment

Its a sad dismal story tbat i
from Ardmore. !t is tbe story of a
vooeg muple frxn the Cherokee na-
tion recently married wbo bad goae
to Ardmore to enjoy their burner moon
sad ta'c a fleeting glance at fash toa
a ita native lair. They were having a
rrest time. Tbe days we.e c'ays of
4eaa terse aad all their paths were
peace They 1 ao'ted into tbe ahop
window eh w-d guru patronized tbe
restaurants cvasumed peanuts uad
bought cheap and artless jewelry to
thnr loviag hearts' content. They
might have goae back to the nation
happier aad more hopeful than they
left if they baa not encountered on
tto street aa aged fakir with two fox
terriers aad a sumptuous flow of iaa-
xusge. The bride however was at-
tracted by the pups. She thought
them cute. Hbe consulted her owp
hubby aad he agreed with her effu-
sively Then the fskir uplifted tbem
upon a wind of conversation aad
soared with them into the opalescent
fair land beyond tbe clouds. Finally
tbey bought a pup. Ten dollars struck
hubby as a stiff figure for a dog but
Herdie waated it aad ha disgorged.
Tbe pup was white with a black
patch omr oae ear aad a yellow
spot over tbe other and
Bardie wj logically and properly
concluded that they ought to call it
"Mab." tinbby however ufter some
further examination thought tbat
"Jack" would be better -more mati-
asl aad more appropriate Tbei fol-
lowed a small affectionate fuss grow-
ing more heated aad hostile as mutual
suggestions met with no response un-
til at last hubby coatemataoasly re-
jected the name of "sweetheart" of-
fered as aa alive branch of compro-
mise and called his Birdie's pup "a
measly little beast " At that tbe
bride threw up her hand tbst haad
so recently attaaed to dalliance and
smote her hubby oae really resound-
ing smite upon the cheek. Immedi-
ately a ribald rabble hemmed them in
sad "sicked them on to s?rsp " and
a toarse unfeeling pohcetnsn came
aad hauled them to tbe calaboose
Irate full of recrimination A aad
sad tslu. Yesterday two hearts with
but a siogle thought; today two alien
souls aad hate withal Parted by a
