GERMAN WOMEN WANT

Ile.rlin (l!y mail)- Women mem-
bers of the national assembly have
recently striven to have included in
tho new constitution a clause where-
by illefiilniaie child-en would have u
stronger standing in the community
than at present. The women were
anxious to see sir a .::ililren take
the name ot their fathers but jtbU
proposal did not carry.
Fran Zietz made a speech wherein
she declared that the double stand-
ard of morality is unfair to women-
kind and to children born oat of
wedlock. Illegitimacy is quite prev-
alent in many parts of Germany and
the women members of the ssembly
were inclined to believe that it could
be decreased if tho father were
lorced to give his name to the child.
Women members of tho assembly
have shown a strong interest in mor-
al welfare questions and in educa-
tional matters.
They are especially anxious to have
German eductaional standards rised
and they are interested too in mat-
ters of economic welfare.
In connection with hte question of
illegitimacy some of the women have
raised the point that the economic
situation of Gennny was responsible
for the fact there were fewer mar-
"riages then there should be. Fran
Zeitz particularly excoriated the cap
italist classes for paying small wages
thereby hindering many from marry-
ing wha would otherwise enter matri-
mony. Women's participation in German
politics appears to he working out.
well as they tend to give a higher
tone to many questions than might
otherwise bo the case.
Several of the women members
have developed the art of oratory
rather well though for the most part
they do not get the same publicity
thai junk; members of the assem-
bly do.
