Spain for Country's Charm-
ing Daughters.
To (his day Spanish women are
the most beautiful in the world; thej
hnve the little feet the long white
wonderful hands the incomparable
wnlk the supple Iberian figure that
Ras nt the waist precisely as when
Oautier went to Spain in 1840 or1
Mmlnmc d'Auluoy in 1679. Other
women wear a flower defacbnbly and
it is usually unlovelv or unbecom-
ing it falls oh" or fades or sickens i
A Spanish woman though she may
come in to uash your floors puts it
on ab she would put on a jewel. It
becomes an essential part of her
dress as much n piece of her peroa
as her curved dark eyebrow or the
soft tip of her ear. She is all put
together villi a peifeclion no out-
sider can master; her embroidered
shawl smooth over the arms and
close to the lithe shapely back never
slips; under her lace mantilhi the
smooth brown hair is dressed high
the tall comb planted firm and the
cunning folds and falls are never dis-
placed. AVhen a lady gets down
from her carriage to walk in the
park the coachman reins in his sleek
pair and crawls up and down in
sight her walk is as fiee and sinuous
as that of the girl in alpargatas wh
brushes against her with a backet of '
linen. The alpargatas with sole of
plaited hemp and two stretched
bands of linen white or blue prints
the dust from the Biscay 6bore to the

Varley is some artist at polishing
a rough lump of coal. He show-

piece of coal. It takes a fine pol-
ish and makes quite a good ad-
