What Is tho Christmas spirit? It
prompts giving. Giving what? To
whom? What for? Did you over
ponder thoso questions?
Is it good ChrlBtmas spirit to glvo
presents mainly or only to thoso
who you know will glvo In return
expensive gifts to those who glvo
expensive gifts and cheap gifts to
thoso who glvo cheap gifts? Is
Christmas n loose kind ot barter
when peoplo exchnugo goods without
haggling in advance over thu price
waiting to grumbio over tho bar-
gain afterwards?
Is Christmas properly an occasion
whon selfish children aro loaded
down with toys aud other gifts with
tho result that they become more
selfUh still?
Did you over consider tho enor-
mous wastes of ChrlBtmas? Not
the extruvnganco of love for no ex-
pression ot sincere love is really
extravagant however costly tho
gift. Hut tho tons and tons of use-
less articles which peoplo bored al-
most to death by shopping feel It
necessary to glvo to peoplo who d.t
not want what Ib given them?
Aro you ever disturbed by tho
hundred and ono iibuseB of thu
Chrlsmas festival thu insipid frivoli-
ties tho gross feaBtlng tho reckless
throwing away of money upon what
benefits nobody and Injures multitudes?
Would it not bo good for all of
us to thjnk again what Christmas
is for? It wub prompted by tho life
and teaching's ot Ono who had little
to give anybody measured In dol-
lars and cents or tho coin of any
realm. It began with the giving of
a life the wholo llfo.
It was not limited to a narrow
circlo of friends who weru suro to
pay back In kind all that wns giv-
en. It was prompted by n desire
to benetit nil to servo tho common
good to include initnanlty In tho
commonwealth.
Ought wo not to rededlcate
ChrlBtmas as tho great community
festival and make good citizenship
Its highest Joy nnd richest reward?

The more you think about the future
and about opportunity and about success
the more enthusiastic you become about be-
ing a money saver.
It would be as sensible to say that two
and two make five as to say that one can go
right on spending money heedlessly and ex-
pect opportunity to halt before him.
It doesn't require higher mathamatics
ro figure out where your present course is
leading you.
If you have mastered the art of saving
you can forecast with reasonable accuracy
how much of a factor you will be in the great
