With fifty-six final proof notices for
publication the Guyrr.on Herald seems
to be doing very well and should not
"roast" their contemporary the Guy-
mo'n Democrat toi severely for land-
ing the county printing at legal rates.
The same conditions prevailed in Tex-
as county as in Beaver county a dem-
ocratic majority on the Board of Coun-
ty Commissioners and the printing was
awarded to the Democratic organ at
legal rates.
Harry Wellborn and wife returned
to Beaver Sunday after a sojourn of
three months at Arnett. They are
back to stay so they say and Harry
has assumed mechanical charge of the
Democrat. Harry has had consider-
able experience in newspaper work and
if ho behavea as well in his present
position an In hia o.er two years em-
ploy at this office his employees will
nave no cause to regret hiring him.
From the varied cmpllmnts (?)
being handed J. S. Fiacr by the nu-
merous Texas and Cimarron papers it
it quite evident that "Buttinski'' Fisch-

on the good people over there as a
polit'rai Moses the old graft he plied
so unsuccessfully in Beaver until he
was veritably led to the border and
told to "go hedge." Beaver County
certainly dellvored itself of a rotten
package when it bid that vile skunk
adieu.

Sands a landidctefor National
Delegate.
Dr. A. J. Sands Benver County's
representative in tho lower House has
nnnounced his intention of becoming a
candidate for n mmber of the Nation-
al Republican delegation from the se-
cond Congressional district.
Dr. Sands is the first from this dis-
trict to openly nnnouuee for a place on
tho delegation. He is anible man
and a good Repunlican and his condl-
la;y will meet with hearty approval.
It is safe to say all Beaver County is
ready to back him for the place he
seeks.
Old Soldiers Enjoy Dinner.
Saturday being regular installation
of officers for tho G. A. R. Post the
wives of the members of that body
planned to entertain the "Old Boys"
with fine spread in honor of the oc-
casion. The dinner was accordinclv prepared
at the home of J. R. Thomas and it Ib
hardly necessary for us to state was
heartily enjoyed. Age has not affect-
ed their bravery in the least for they
made a steady advance on th well
laden table and captured everything in
sight. Some little anxiety was felt
lest the old comrades might have lost
their appetites but all fears were dis-
pelled when the coffee cups were pass-
ed ut so; often for re-nllinsr. After
dinner regular installation of officers
was had at the G. A. R. Hail after
which they spent a few hours in social
talk and song and general good time.
These occasions are always enjoyable
times for tho Old Soldiers and their
wives and never fail to call to mind
times of the long ago so dear to every-
one of them and yet so far from any-
thing but pleasure then.
Farmers May Borrow Money.
A letter of recent dato from Senator
J. S. Morris was handed us this week
in ..which the Honorable Senator states
that arrangements have been com-
pleted and a portion of the State school
money is now in reach of tho farmers
who may desire to negotiate loam
Senator Morris states that he w'll be
glad to serve any of his constituents
who may desire to write him in regard
to making a loan. While the Senator
is a Democrat we rather suspect he
knows that had it not been for those
Republican votes his name would have
been "Dennis" therefore we take the
liberty to state thnt any of our good
Republican friends who may desire to
write him may be assurred his usual
courteous and careful attentiun to
their cause as well as to those of his
brothers in Democracy.
Elect Officers.
At the annual election of officers of
the Bank of Heaver City at thercgular
meeting of the board of directors the
same officials were unaniuously elected
for the year 1008.
The work they have done in bringing
this bank to tho front is highly com-
mendable and they were entirely de-
serving of re-election.
At the meeting of the board of di-
rectors the matter of increasing the
capital stock was discussed and it is al-
together probable that such action will
be taken at an early date.
The bank is in excellent condition
and the stockholders who labored so
diligently to place where it is are proud
of their -uecoss and are anxious to
make the hank bigger and better. It
is not at all unlikely that the bank will
Nationalized later on.
Dies of Consumption.
We are Informed this week of the
death of Mrs II. A. Brewer of near
Kokonio who died after a lingering
illness of consumption. Funeral ser-
vices were conducted and burial made
in the cemetery at that place.
The sympathy ot a host of friends
goes out to Mr. Brewer in his sad be-
reavement. He came to this section
about two yearn ago in tho hope that a
change to this splendid climate might
restoro hia companion to health but
tho diseaso had fastened its cluthes
too firmly aoout its victim and she was
unable to throw off that enemy of the
flesh tho white plague.
Thus it is another homo has been
rendered desolate by the Grim Reaper
but the wifp and mother was a con-
sistent Christian and died firm in the
faith and while sorrow and sadnestt
now envelop the earthly home the be-
reaved ones haVe the assurance qt

A recent amendment to the Postal
Laws and Regulations which may be
found elsewhere in this issue require
publishers of newipapers to diconn-

A Destructive Fire.
A destructive prairie five swept the
country south of Beaver one day lust
week and destroyed a vast amount of
posture and feed. Thos Inlow was a
heavy loser. His sheds and nil his
feed were destroyed and his loss will
nggrcgato about $500.00. No othvr
heavy losses are reported.
The fire was started by the school
children who threw out somo hot ashes
during the high wind Friday.
The many friends cf Mr. Inlow sym
pathize with him in his extreme mis-
fortune. Coming nt this season of tho
year It will work a great uarusnip on
him.
From all reports the fire spems duo
to slmplo carelessness Thu wind was
blowing a gale all day and there seems
to be no excuse for any teacher (or any
one else for that matter) allowing hot
ashes to be taken outside the houso
under any circumstances. It is only
another case of thoughtlessness nnd
carelessness causing untold havoo but
we suppose until the end of time just
such conduct on the part of somo will
prevail.

three additional committees wkleh Z
did not ask for and was not wanting
on and did tiot care for. As a i&attor
of faet sevo i committees are too ntany
for any man to be obligated to give his
attention to however as I have been
appointed upon these committees I
will certainly do my best to represent
the interests of my constituents upon
them.
I will say further that I was appoint-
ed upon more committees- than any
other Republican member of the House
nnd on more committees than aay
Democrat save perhaps a half dosen
in the .House and there are many
Democrats and some Republicans only
represented upon ono or two commit-
tees consequently my personal opinion
is that I fared very well in committee
appointments. In fact had I been giv-
en my own selcctior. could not have
been better pleased and trust by my
future action to satisfy the people of
Beaver County whom I am trying
represent in the First legislature.
