Iu the caso of the Territory vs. Sher
man Walker by mutual ngieement bo-
tween tho prosecuting witness and the
defendant tho dcfendiat was allowed to
plead guilty to simple assault and was
fined S35.Q0 aud costs. The Judge
was elow to accept this settlement and
only coasentcd to it on account of the
I high respectability of the parties. He
is determined to cilbrce the law against
carrying weapons either concealed or
otherwise. The attention of our read-
ers is called to tho provinion of tho stat-
ute found uudcr chapter 25 Crimes and
puuishtnents Article -15 page 503 and
especially to see. !) of said article' which
makes it i punishment to point a pistol
iu fun or in anger loaded or not bided
under penalty of not less than 850.
Deccratiou Day was observed iu Bea-
ver in a very appropriate manner. Tho
turnout was largo although tho weather
was somewhat unfavorable. At 1:30
o'clock the people assembled at the
church which had been tastefully deco
rnted for tho occasion where tho pro-
gram was carried out in a very imprcssivo
maniier after which tho procession
forme J and proceeded to tha cemetery
where tno G. A. K. Post held its ritual-
istio exercises and decorated tho grave
of their fallen comrades.

Lightning's Work.
On May 21th Rev. G. G. Rupert and
son Harry and Ed Kuntz started from
Liberal hauling a small Iioumj for their
I ranch on the Beaver three miles below
Sharp's Creek. They had ono team of
four modcrato horses and another tram
of threo heavy horses. At noon they
stopped for dinner alter which tho old
gentleman drove on ahead in hU buggy.
About 2 o'clock the young men encount-
ered a shower jvhen they stopped to wait
fjr it to pass over. They laid down on
some hay in tho house and while lying
there n bolt of lightning struck the hind
gablo of tho house tho ono farthest from
the horss tearing away about one-third
of the roof and a hind standard of the
wagon. A portion of the electricity
ran down a screen door on tho end of
the house near which tho young men
were lying with heads cloo together.
Tho current entered Mr. Kuntz at his
heel tearing iiis shoo off his foot and
tearing off his pantti leg to his hip bono
then around his abdomen to his spine
where it left him entering the hay aud
setting it on fire. Wtiero it left his
back a perfect (-char was burned as
largo as a dollar from thd margin of
which a red halo tadiates. Mr. Kuntz
was burned to a blister alou;; tho cutirc
routo taken by the fluid and was so com-
pletely stuuncd by the shock that he
would have burned to death had not
Hairy Rupert escaped seiious injury
and extinguished the flames. Another
curious as well as serious freak of the
boll was that it killed the team of three
heavy Imrscs or so shocked them that
they died iu five minutes. They were
not struck down but gradually let them-
sclvci down as if lying down to roll.
Thero were ao breaks or burns of the
horses' flesh. The financial lois in our
new corner Mr. Rupert in quito heavy
and wo sincerely regret it whilo we
most heat tily congratulate tho y)ung
men on their fortunate escape.
