Baking Powders
Before Congress.
The Pure Food bill befoie Congress would be a righteous
measure for the people and should become .1 law. The public
want pure food and in order to protect themselves must know
what is adulterated. All adulterated piepar.itions should be so
branded including Unking Powders containing Ammonia or
Alum. Then if people want to dose themselves with "Absolutely
Pure" Ammonia or Alum they will do it knowingly. The
public have been looking tip the composition of Ammonia and
Alum and they don't like the idea of eating either in their hot
biscuit.
Dr. Price's

Lime or other adulteration. And every investigation whether
in the laboratory or kitchen confirms and emphasizes its superior-
ity in every way.

GOVERNOR THAYER.
Til a Ux-Oiivornor of Nebrnika Now lu
TliU City.
The south bound truln today brought
to the city nn eminent republican In
the person of ox-Governor Thayer of
Nebraska who is on his way to I.n-
portc Texas. When Informed by the
conductor that he would cither have
to stop over until this evening In this
city or Purcell he wisely chose Outh-
He as he had lootf desired to behold
the city whoso niaglo growth is the
wonder of the 10th century. He unex-
pectedly ran across nn old friend lu
the person of F. W. Hewitt of tho In
dian Territory bank where a CAHrAt
reporter found him.
"I om surprised and pleased" said
Oovcrnor Thayer "at your beautiful
city. This Is my first vIMt here and
from what I have been able "to ob
serve In so short a time you seem to
be a thrifty enterprising and progres-
sive people. Familiar as I am with
the phenomenal growth of western
cities your city leads In all the cssen-
t al elements nnd eclljises all my pnst
experiences In rapid growths. If
what I sec todny Is a criterion the
financial depression has touched your
people lightly In comparison to other
points visited."
The governor Is a hale man f very
agreeable manners. lie Intends this
evening to drive over the city on a
tour of observation. He leaves this
evening on the 11 o'clock train.
High Water.
Purcell Topic The Canadian river
has been on a rampage for the past
week full from bank to bank. The
people In this city were warned of the
npproachlug rise and every precaution
taken to avert accident to life nd
property. On Saturday night the post-
office corner was crowded with people
looking for the rise to come. It did
come but not until about 0 o'clock
Sunday morning and there were but
few persons who witnessed the mad
rush of water. The sand-bar saloons
with their entire contents and the
bridge leading to them were swept
down stream Ileyond the destruction
if these there was no damage done.
Monday evening the Santa Fe bridge
rosslng the river seven miles above
ncre was broken in half and about 200
feet of It wus washed away. Traffic
was stopped and not even mall aud ex-
pres mutter could get across. The
town was filled with waterbound pas-
sengers for a few days.
It was reported on our streets Tues-
lay that another rise was expected
but as the wires are down between
here and the north nothing authentic
can be gotten regarding anotnur flood.
I.ATEn Yesterday the expected rise
took place and was followed with dis
astrous results the remaining spans
of the Santa Ve bridge being swept
away. Ills now a mutter of conjec
ture when the bridge will be rebuilt
mid trulllc resinned.
