Now or Never.
St. Louis. Mo., July 14.—The
Chronlclo publishes a lengthy letter
from Congressman Richard 1*. Bland,
the great apostle of bi-mctalllsm and
an uncontrolled currency. A synopsis
of the letter is as follows:
"The war lictween gold monometal-
lists and bi-mctallists is not intensely
flagrant Men and parties, as well as
public journals, must take the one
side or the other; there is no room for
trimmers or doubters.
"The Sherman law must go. but Its
expiring breath must breathe into life
legislation on its lines of true bi-
metallism. The timid and halting in
our ranks have brought up to the ex-
pedient of the Sherman law and now
insist on further waiting. Had we
adopted the free coinage bill, all
would have been settled in favor of
bi-metallism. Had the senate agreed
to this bill or the subsequent one that
I had passed in the Forty-fifth con-
gress, wo would have no silver ques-
tion to-dry. But no, we must wait.
Wait till France and the Latin union
get impatient with us and put further
limits to their silver coinage.
"We are now brought face to face
with the question of total demonitiza-
tion in this the greatest metallic
power tlie world lias ever known.
Tlie repeal of the .Sherman law un-
conditiona ly is all that is necessary
now to accept the end for which the
gold party have struggled from the
beginning.
"The repeal of the Sherman law
outright and substitute nothing for it
would precipitate a silver panic
throughout tlie world, and probably
cause its universal demor itization.
It seems to me no true friend of silver
could advocate such a policy. If we
ever intend the free coinage of silver
in this country, we must war for it
now—right now."

LkavknwoBTH, Kan., July 14.—The
Home mine where the trouble with
miners' wives occurred yesterday
morning, lias shut down again and
not a man entered the shaft to-day.
The influence brought to bear by
the strikers and their wives
kept so many willing workers from
resuming that the company realized
that it would be useless to attempt to
work with less than two score men
and at the same time run the chances
of a riot This morning women and
men again surrounded the shaft, but
no men appeared to go to work, Su-
perintendent Kiersted having notified
them not to do so.

Knights of Labor, was convicted of
the Homestead poisoning, has made
another confession saying that Demp-
sey is innocent Onllagher and David-

sey are serving out their sentences in
the penitentiary.
According i.o Gallagher's latest
confession it was not the intention of
the cooks to implicate Dcmpecy at
first It was not thought of until
several strong bluffs and a promise of
immunity to them, half frightened

the 'fake" confession. Davidson was

Dempsey's attorneys will bring the
matter to the attention of the pardon
