SUSPEN8I0N OF PAYMENT8.
The (petition sent Gov. Haskell by
the organized labor organizations of
tfce state asking to suspend all pay
merits for 90 days, seems to the Star
it be tbe most foolish absuridity and
tbe most absurd foolishness.
How any man depending upon labor
for a living can hope to exist for
ninety days without money or credit
im beyond tbe powers of comprehen-

tall merchant could or would carry
the army of laborers over such a

THE ABREVIATION.
I
Now that we have statehood the
■gltatpra have taken the field for the
yurpoee of deciding upon an abrevia-
tkm for tbe name Oklahoma. Some
want It "Okla." as it has been all
•he time, some want "Ok.", but the
Daily Oklahoman wants it spelled
la full. The Star would suggest that
Some Wise Suggestion*.
The Farmers' National Coogrejs
which convene 1 at Oklahoma City
liast rhonth (and by the way, we have
never seen a creditable "wri'o up'
of It yet) advanced some splendid
Ideas along practical lines.
The subject ot agricultural educa-
tion, wsu one of the main topics ad
vanced an J. discussed. >ble educa-
tors discussed this featuie ot the
work to a finish—no, this is a topic
that never can be finished—and by
some of the ablest minds in the land.
The trend of all the papers read,
and arguments advanced, waa that
our public school system failed in
that it didn't teach along agricultur-
al lines, with all the term. Includes.
Agriculture with all its kindred "L.ts',
and "ismd" must be taught in our
public schools and our teachers
should begin at onoe to prepare them-
selves to teach it or else they will
find tfeemselvM without a Jcb.
Perhaps ttbe highest authority on
the subject that appeared before the
congress was Hon. Fassett A. Cot
too, Indiana's superintedent of public
instruction. He argued in favor oi
including the study of the land in ev.
ery school of high and low degree.
He declared that in the future the
great maaa of the pop. "atioo of this
country muat earn its way through
agriculture and that to be prepared
for such a life the youth of this and
coming ages must be properly educa-
ted.
Another talker on this topic was
Hon. Charles R. Davis a Minnesota
congressman, who has introduced 3
biU in the national legislature provid-
ing that agricultue subjects must he
taught in ail high schools in 11 kt
nr.onaer that they are taught in ' the
state agricultural college^.
There were addresses on a number
of other subjects. Mrs.
Ladles, do not forget that you can
corns to the Opera. House next Moo-
Jay night free of charge and see Miss
Gertrude Ewlng if you are accom
panted by the bolder of a pa'd fifty
cent seat, purchased before #1*

The ladles at the Cemetery Associa-
tion will hold a market next Satur-
day in he old City National Bank
building for the benefit of the Cem-
etery fund. All are Invited to patron
ize them and procure material for
their Sunday dinners.
