others were were completely wrecked
and are irreparable. The property loss
will probably foot upwards of $400,000
Snyder Is beautifully situated in a
<^ve of the Wichita mountains. A
prominent hill forms a background on
the south, gradually rsceding' to a
level with the surrounding country at
the southeast and southwest corners
■of the town. Over the southwest? cor-
nner of this hill the terriflc storm
swept upon the peaceful and prosper-
ous little city. Practically all of the
residence portion of the town lay In
the wake of the storm, across the
railroad from the business part of
town, and not a residence was left
standing north of the railroad. All
the lumber in the houses was re-
duced to mere splinters. The foun-
dations to many of the houses were,
displaced, and in many Instances the
stone were blown away. Of a gin that
stood In the path of the storm, noth-
ing could be seen except one light
piece of machinery. A visitor to the
scene of the disaster asked a survivor
about the engine and boiled of the
