day morning at the chapel of the
Hunter Funeral home The Rev
Oren Perry Chetopa Kansas of-
ficiated Burial was in the GAR ce-
metery Miami
Survivors include his widow Mrs
Joanne Donelson of the home at
504 South Ella Street a daughter
Mrs Billie Jean Larkin of Pratt
Kansas a son Ronnie Joe Donel-
son of Pennsylvania two step-
sons Bobby Lee Roller with the
U S Army and Mike Gregory
Roller of the home his mother
Mrs Matilda Donelson Commerce
one brother Church Donelson of

Donelson was born January 2
1921 in Douthat Okla and had
lived in this area most of his life
Donelson was killed about 9 o'-
clock Thursday night December 4
in an automobile accident on Hi-
way 166 three and a half miles
west of Baxter Springs Accord-
ing to reports Donelson's car
skidded into the path of a gasoline
truck transport The transport dri-
ver was not injured
Mrs Vernie Jo Pattison 37 of
Monrovia Calif a passenger in
Donelson's car also escaped in-

returned to Little Rock Ark Tues-
day mirning for a medical check-
up Mr Fisher is recuperating
from injuries received October 1
in an automobile accident
Warren Pathkiller former Picher
resident now living in Miami was
dismissed Monday from the Miami
hospital where he had hcn a pat-
ient the past two weeks

When Ice Breeks
Members of the Ottawa County
Sheriffs department the Miami
fire department and other volun-
teer rescue workers continued the
search this morning (Thursday)
for the body of Joe Hicks 63-yearold
Miamian who fell through the
ice about 3 o'clock Wednesday af-
ternoon The body of Joe Hicks was re-
coverd about ten o'clock this
morning acording to a report
from the County Sheriffs of-
fice Hicks and a companion John R
Hanna also of Miami had crossed
the Neosho river on the ice West
of the Goodrich plant Wednesday
morning enroute to pick pecans
As they returned the ice had thin-
ned and both men fell through and
into the water Hanna managed to
get ashore but was unable to
rescue Hicks The water at the
spot was believed to be from ten to
fifteen feet deep
Thick oozy mud has hampered
efforts to locate the body

In Auto Mishap
Mrs Jess Matteer 210 West B
Street escapcd serious injury a-
bout 8 o'clock Wednesday morning
when her car skidded on an icy
stretch of road and struck a power
pole The mishap occurred in front
of the old Whitebird building on
North Connell
Mrs Matteer was enroute to work
at the OK Cleaners when her
car hit the slick spot on the high-
way and her automobile went out
of control hitting the pole snap-
ping it off Mrs Matteer was
thrown from the car and knocked
unconscious She was taken to the
Miami Hospita' in a Thomas am-
ulance and treated for cuts and
bruises later being dismissed and
returned to her home
The car was badly damaged
