WHAT'S DOING
NO 9
The weather took a turn for the
worse last Thursday and on Friday
morning snow flurries and a very
cold wind seemed extremely bad but
the snow melted almost as it hit and
by mid-afternoon had stopped Yet
Saturday Sunday and Monday were
wintery days and a taste of what is
in store for an Oklahoma winter
Several of the boys were out last
Saturday and got the limit on quail
Ellis McDaniel was one of the bunch
and he was bragging about the quail
dinners he was enjoying Then on
Tuesday the quail hunters were get-
ting an early start around here A
lot more farms are being posted with
no hunting signs this year due to the
poor sportman attitude of some of the
hunters Our local and county boys
are not so bad but some from the
City and visiting points come in and
pay little attention to signs or prop-
erty rights even shooting down the
no hunting signs on the farmers land
Those type of guys need the teach-
ing of an Izaak Walton League or-
ganization Many of those enjoying
Thanksgiving turkey today owe their
meal to the biggest turkey dealer of
this part of the state M W Cross of
northwest of town who raised 3000
turkeys this fall Mr Cross started
out raising the broad breasted bronze
turkey which is a good sized bird
He later added the Beltsville whites
for smaller commercial purposes
It was rather cold but quite a big
crowd attended the Kansas - Aggie
game at Stillwater last Saturday and
saw the Cowpokes take Kansas 42 to
6 in a game that saw 50 Aggies in the
game This Saturday's game with
OM is one for the polls to miss
Most of the stores are closed here
today for the Thanksgiving day get-
togethers and dinners At the col-
lege experiment farm north of town
the building and machine on the tur-
key farm their is a dehydrating unit
and they have been processing sweet
potatoes The use of these spuds is a
substitue feed and fattener and this
Is a proven experiment Our land a-
roltrid Perkins—Is very-adaptable - to
the growing of sweet potatoes and the
farmers should take advantage of the
college experimental program They
plan a cooperative growing program
for the coming year and it would be
profitable to work with them in put-
ting out a patch of sweet spuds
The community box supper was not
too well attended although a sizeable
crowd enjoyed an interesting program
and evening of box supper eating
Proceeds netted around $16500 with
division of proceeds between the Stud-
ent Council of the school and the lo-
cal American Legion organizations
The Paul Weems family were mov-
ing Tuesday into the former Jim Lus-
ter place which Paul recently bought
They moved from the Warren prop-
erty in west Perkins
The Lets Eat Cafe got a new going
over inside during the weekend with
new paint on the floors stools and
counters and the individual tables and
chairs are all brightly new painted
We are informed that chat work is
started on highway 40 near Wellston
and perhaps our highway will soon be
fixed up some Were ready for it
Tuesday the 23rd was my birthday
and sure enough just as year after
year for quite a number now one of
the nicest ladies in town our neighbor
Mrs Recer came over with happy
birthday greetings and a whopping
big prune cake all lathered with real
icing and really delicious too And
growing older is made much happier
by friends like those And talking of
Oklahomans the editor of the Poland
China World H M Menegough re-
ports on the youth from Oklahoma at
the Minnesota national barrow show:
He says "I want to tell you that you
never meet finer fellows than the
Oklahoma FFA group that comes to
the barrow show They show us how
to be expert showmen and gentlemen
all in the same package" And
since several of our local youth were
there along with Mr Evans supervis-
or we can proudly acclaim their
actions as ambassadors of Perkins
The Clyde Mc Calls are planning to
move to California after they get all
straightened up from their farm sale
Billy McCall is back at Stillwater
and is driving a bakery truck route
The damage suit trial of W N Bakers
against the Pact Gas company is in
progress in district court this week
Dale Curtis who hal been in the
Army for the past two years received
his discharge on November 19
