Preliminary April 1994
Unemployment Rate
The Oklahoma Employment
Security Commission announced
recently that Oklahoma's pre-
liminary unemployment rate
for April 1994 is 65 percent
down 04 percent from March
1994's revised 69 percent unem-
ployment rate Oklahoma's
April 1994 preliminary unem-
ployment rate ' continues to
slightly exceed the nation's 63
percent unemployment rate
The revised March 1994 unem-
ployment rate (- the US is 68
percent
The preliminary unemploy-
ment total for April 1994 indi-
cates 101100 Oklahomans
without jobs compared with
the revised March 1994 total of
107300 unemployed individu-
als Latimer county at 172
Lenore county at '93 and
Pushmalaha county at 75 were
listed with 40 of the states 77
counties that exceeded the na-
tional unemployment rate of

for Wreck Victims

Families and friends at-
tended the funeral services
Tuesday for the three young
people who were killed in a car
wreck Friday evening
Carey Le Ann Pace 18 and
Carolyn Elizabeth Pace 17 of
Fano la were the only children
of Fred and Ruby Pace of
Pano la
James Russell Stickler 22 of
Wilburton was also killed He
was a 1990 graduate of
Wilburton High School the son
of Judy Shores

Latimer EMS Audit Report
Clifton H Scott State
Auditor and Inspector released
the results of the Latimer
County EMS (Emergency
Medical Service) audit
Auditors made recommenda-
tions to the EMS regarding
their revenues and receipts
purchasesdisbursements and
property and equipment
The report recommended un-
der Revenues and Receipts "It
was noted that the District
had three savings accounts
with various banks in the
County There are no internal
controls in place over these ac-
counts Funds are not properly
receipted nor are funds encum-
bered before expenditures are
made by the EMS
Panola Baptist Church
Welcomes New Pastor
Doug Wilkins
Pano la Baptist Church has
recently acquired a new pastor
Doug Wilkins who was pre-
viously the Associate Pastor at
Immanuel Baptist Church in
Skiatook Oklahoma was se-
lected to fill the vacancy of the
church
He and his wife Konny
have moved to the area to take
the position of Senior Pastor
"My message is simple It's
from Romans 6:11 'Likewise ye
also reckon yourselves to be
dead indeed to sin but alive to
God in Christ Jesus our
Lord1"said Pastor Wilkins
Pastor Wilkins and his fam
Carey was a 1993 graduate of
Pano la and Carolyn had just
completed her junior year
Judy Jones business instructor
at Pano la said Carolyn and
Carey had been active in Future
Homemakers of America the
speech dub and school pep ral-
lies "Carolyn always had a
smile for everyone when she
came to school" said Jones
According to the Oklahoma
Highway Patrol report the ac-
cident occurred at 7:05 pm one
mile east of Wilburton on Lutie
Road at the new bridge The
1983 Chevrolet pickup driven
by Carey Pace went left of cen-
ter and hit head-on the 1979
Chevrolet pickup driven by
Justin Ray Adams 19 of
Wilburton

We recommend that funds
donated or obtained through
fund raising efforts by the EMS
be deposited with the County
Treasurer
The limited number of EMS
office personnel prevents a
proper segregation of accounting
function which is necessary to
assure adequate internal ac-
counting controls
We recommend that man-
agement be aware of this condi-
tion and realize that the con-
centration of duties and respon-
sibilities in a limited number of
individuals is not desirable
from a control point of view
Under these conditions the
most effective controls lie in
management's knowledge of the

ment of around seventy is keep-
ing the Pastor busy with his
daily work for Christ He is
also spending a great deal of
time visiting within the com-
munity and meeting as many
people as he can He welcomes
the opportunity to meet every-
one and spread the word of
Christ
On June 26 at 6:30 pm a
youth drama ministering team
will be at the church called
"Warriors in Training" The
team is from Immanuel Baptist
in Skiatook Everyone is en-
couraged to attend these ser-
vices and hear the good word
from the youth
and Kelly Eugene Rowland 18
were passengers in the 1979
Chevrolet pick-up
Justin Adams was taken to
Ft Smith Monday He will be
in a wheel chair from leg in-
juries for a few days and is suf-
fering from a broken nose ac-
cording to a family member
Kelly Rowland and Floyd
Houston are reported in stable
condition in the Sparks surgical
ICU in Ft Smith Both men un-
derwent surgery for a broken leg
Tuesday The ICU nurse said
they were both awake and
alert

at Fano la High School

service was at First Baptist
Church in Wilburton

This year's recipient of the
Anthony Botello Memorial
Scholarship is Chad Botello
the younger brother of
Anthony
One of the WHS faculty
members stated that the other
seniors did not apply for the
scholarship They felt that
Chad deserved this award be-
cause he portrayed his
brother's characteristics more
than anyone else they knew
The seniors were very sup-
portive of Chad receiving this
award and the family would
just like to say thanks The
Anthony Botello Memorial
Scholarship will be given an-
nually at the WHS graduation
ceremony Thanks to all who
have been so generous in donat-
ing to this fund and to the sur-
rounding schools for paying
tribute to Anthony by remem-
bering him in their yearbooks
