OFFICIAL PAPER OF COAL' COUNTY
The difficulties under wind
the new officials of Coal County
have had to work taken into con
sideration they have done ex
ceedingly well and the Recorc
might say far better than good
conservative people could have
expected Taken altogether
this county’s officials can not be
outclassed in the state They
are all honest and patient and
are at all times willing to assist
any citizen in any way they can
when they go to the county seat
on business
The Board of County Commis-
sioners of this county have been
in session since last Monday
transacting the business of the
county that comes before them
The board is composed of three
good honest conservative men
who are doing everything in their
power for the best interest of
the people of the entire county
Record feels that so long as
such men as the present board
is elected the county will be in
safe and sane hands
THAT PRINTERS’ BILL
Baxter Taylor editor of the
Atoka Democrat who possesses
the happy faculty of getting at
the kernel of the nut with great
ease and with precision pays his
respects to the gentlemen who
recently undertook the job of
destroying the democratic news-
papers in the interest of what
would have been a superlatively
rotten clique if their plans had
gone through He so thoroughly
voices the sentiment of the Re-
cord on the subject that we en-
dorse and reprint it here :
' “The country papers when
the time comes should pay their
respects to the gentlemen who
were so rampant in their support
of the printers’ bill as first intro-
duced in the house We believe
in home rule and we believe
each county ha3 gumption
enough within its own borders to
run its own affairs without the
superior knowledge of the board
of public printing at Guthrie
Indeed we in this corner are not
yet willing to grant that all
knowledge and wisdom have
been concentrated in Guthrie
and are in the craniums of the We all joined in thanking our
board of public printing Im- hostess for a very delightful eve-

NEW STATE CLUB
CHRISTMAS BOX PARTY
On Wednesday eve December
’07 Misses Maude and Willie
Mae Ramsey entertained a num-
ber of their friends with a “box
party'’ The parlor was beauti-
fully decorated with mistletoe
and the N S C colors bla'ck
and yellow Boxes of various
sizes were in the room and were
used for chairs
After all guests had arrived
we played the good old game
ring on a string” which all
heartily enjoyed Our hostess
then presented each of us with a
paste-board box which contained
Christmas present A card
was attached to the box with the
name of the person we were to
give the present to after writing
a greeting and signing our name
to the card we exchanged pres-
ents and each read aloud the
greeting and then opened the
box to see the present which
always proved to be a clown doll
music box or some other play-
thing We were favored with both'
ocal and instrumental music
which was highly appieciated
Our hostess then called the boys
in the dining room and each in
turn was blindfolded and told
that the girl he caught should be
lis partner for lunch this proved
to be very interesting as some of
the girls were rather hard to
catch After all had partners
we were given a pasteboard box
which contained a most delicious
lunch
As the midnight hour was
fast approaching and we realized
that this happv Christmas night
would soon be passed we bade
good night to those who had so
royally entertained us

gave each girl a small book titled
“Vacation Days” and also gave
them a magazine Each page of
rtie book was headed and we
were supposed to fill the pages
according to the headings with
pictures cut from the magazine
This is where the brushes came
into use also for the young men
were to paste the pictures in the
book as the girls cut them out of
the magazine After the book
was completed we were then to
write a story of our vacation as
shown by the pictures that had
been pasted in the book This
proved very amusing and inter-
esting and by the time we finish-
ed our story our vacation seemed
almost a reality instead of imagi-
nary j We then had a “Heart Hunt”
Hearts were 'hidden inall parts
of the room on which were writ-
ten the names of the young mgn
present and the girls were to
find them After each girl had
found a heart the difficult part
was yet to come for they had to
propose to the young man whose
heart she had found They got
through this task safely and
were more than rewarded for
their attempt for our hostess
immediately served delicious ap

THECLUB ENTERTAINED
On January 2 1908 Mr and
Mrs Geo W Shorbe delightful-
ly entertained a number of their
friends After all of the guests
had arrived several games were
played
As this is the year when the
girls have the privilege of search-
ing for hearts the most interest-
ing and amusing game played
was “A Heart Hunt” The girls
went to the adjoining room ai d
while there the boys were given
card-board hearts which they
were to hide in some part of the
room After the hearts were
hidden the girls were called in
and told to begin their search
The hearts were so securely hid-
den that some of the girls almost
gave up in despair but when
they remembered the old saying
about “faint hearts” they search-
ed bravely on until every girl
had found a heart Across these
hearts was wrtten the name of
her partner They were then
given a card and pencil and told
to describe their partners Im-
agine if you can these descrip-
tions We were then ushered to the
dining room where a delicious
two-course luncheon was served
in which our club colors black
and orange were beautifully car-
ried out tha first course being

a school-boy’s stand-by (cookie)

Promptly at nine o’clock

could be guessed by the outside '

the auctioneer These were very i
attractive and promised great
things and our surprise was very
great as we opened each pack
age and found ' something laugh-
able Everyone was fooled in
their package especially Mr
