Abstract: On the capital-starved frontier of early Oklahoma, major industries such as railroads, oil, and manufacturing would have been impossible without eastern and foreign investors. As Augustus Veenendaal, Jr. vividly illustrates, one of the most active of these venture capitalists was Salomon Frederick van Oss, who established the "Dutch Connection."
