tennis balls and stuffed animals in an eye-opening experience
that allowed them to discover how games can foster feelings of
trust in both classrooms and boardrooms.
One of the activities led the professors to learn how to help
students work more efficiently together in groups, teaching how
to choose a leader and to not place blame. The participants in
the activity were given a large hula-hoop, and asked to lower it
to the ground.
It sounds simple enough, but the problem became apparent
when the professors, allowed to touch the hula hoop with only
two fingers that had to rest below the hula hoop, found the hula
hoop raising in the air.
The participants had to keep constant contact with the hula-
hoop. and since they could not push down on the hoop, the
need to keep contact led the professors to slowly raise the hula-
hoop in the air. After a moment, they began getting frustrated
and placing blame.
Through this activity, the professors learned that if students
are put in a group without a leader, most often everything will
