Is Pc-ru-na Useful
for Catarrh?
Should a list of the ingredients of Fe-
mna bo nhnutted to any medical ex-
pert of whatever school cr nationality
he would bo ollijci to admit without
reserve that each one cfthcawus of un-
doubted valuo in chronic catarrhal dis-
eases and had stood the teat of many
years’ experience in the treatment of
such diseases THESE CAJT EE 173
DISPUTE AEOUT THIS WHAT-
EVER Ferana is composed of the most
efficacious and universally u$ed herbal
remedies for catarrh Every ingredient
of Peruna has a reputation of its own
in the cure of some phase of catarrh
Perana brings to the home the COM-
BINED KNOWLEDGE OF SEVERAL
SCHOOLS OF MEDICINE in the treat-
ment of catarrhal diseases brings to
the home the scientific shill and knowl-
edgeofthe modern pharmacist and last
but not leastbrings to the home the vast
and varied experience of Dr Hartman
in the use of catarrh remedies and in the
treatment of catarrhal diseases
The fact is chronic catarrh is a dis-
ease which is very prevalent Many
thousand pcoplo know they have
chronio catarrh They have visited
doctors over and over again and been
told that their case is one of chronio
catarrh It may be of the nose throat
lungs stomach or some other internal
organ There is no doubt as to the na-
ture of the disease The only trouble
is tbe remedy Thi3 doctor has tried to
cure them That doctor has tried to
prescribe for them
BUT THEY ALL FAILED TO
BEING ANY BELIEF
Dr Hartman’s idea is that a catarrh
remedy can bo made cn a large scale
as he is making it that it cau be made
honestly of the purest drugs and ol
the strictest uniformity His idea is
that this remedy can be supplied direct-
ly to the people and no more be charged
for it than is necessary for the
handling cf it
No other household remedy so uni-
versally advertised carries upon the
label the principal active constituents
showing that Peruna invites the full
inspection of the critics
Poor Paint is Expensive

of having a change of Color scheme

cut the painting bills flown to the least
amount possible per year it is of the
utmost importance that the paint be
made of Pure White Lead and the
best of Lin-ccd Oil There are imita-

CARE OF THE LAMP
HOW COOD EVEN LIGHT MAY BE
ASSURED
Burner and Wicks Must Be Well
Looked After and Properly
Cleaned — Chimneys Should
Be Boiled
The lamps should first be collected
from every room and all put to-
Kether on a large tray In the kitchen
Then a big wooden box is brought
out which contains greasy cloths
soft cloths a pair of old gloves wick
rags scissors chamois leather and
chimney cleaners Opinions are di-
vided as to whether a wick should be
cut or rubbed down The best way is
to rub It down with a hit of rag which
should be burned and not put back in
tho box and then any stray ends of
cotton cut olt with scissors Great
care should be taken to hold the burn-
er well away from the lamp when tlio
wick Is rubbed down otherwise tho
charred portions are apt to fall on
to It
Once a month the burners should
be boiled Remove tho wicks and
then place tho whole of the burner —
first releasing its various portions
from one another — In a saucepan of
water with a little soda and bring to
tho boil Twenty to thirty minutes'
boiling will make tho burners as
bright as ever thev wore anil should
any black still ni’'u e it can he re-
moved with a hat t after which the
burner is boiled tip a taln
Of course a saucepan must be kept
specially for this and it should bo
either plainly marked or kept away
from other culinary utensils as food
cooked in it would lie unpleasantly
flavored Tho burners must ljo thor-
oughly (lrhul and if possible put In
the sun for a few minnles Mean-
while Iho wicks must bate been seen
to If very dirty they should bo
washed ' in clean suds hut usually
n thorotfli drying in tho sun or In a
warm kitchen will put them la condi-
tion for burning properly It Is ex-
tremely Important that they should
ho cpi!!e dry before being put back
Into the oil
Daily cleansing of every lamp In
'use should be as much a part of the
housewife's duties as making tho
beds
An it her precaution to take to pro-
ven wicks from smoking is to boil
them Huy them in Lunches place In
a porcelain kettle cuter with strong
vinegar bring the latlir to a boil and
set where the kettle will keep warm
for tlireo hours Drain out the wick
dry thoroughly and keep from dust
Wicks thus soaked rarely smoke
If cMtiiu js are bought In quantity
and boiled they also may be pre-
vented in a great numsuro from break-
ing Lay some shavings In the hot-
tom cf a wash boiler pack in tho
chimin' s throw a liundinl of salt
over them and fill with cold water
Allow to cmne to a hell siowlv sim-
mer for two Ijom i s then take from the
fire cover ILL filv so that they will
le at least three inees in cooling
When cold w'1-’i tiie chimneys in hot
water in whi'h a little soda lias been
ilN-udved Hinse in lint water dry
and store in a eu 'hoard Chimneys
should also he vu-Yd in hot soda
water '
How to Shrink Fabrics

length as the goods to be sponged—
un old sheet torn in two will do
Wring tho muslin out of dean water

It and wind goods and damp cloth to-
gether upon tho hoard turning over
carefully to avoid wrinkles When fin-
ished put goods on a flat surface with
a weight on top leave over night

Round or sirloin steak may be made
more tender by marinating for a
couple of hours before broiling In
threj tablespoonfuls of olive oil and
one of vinegar
Biscuits and cake shortened with
olive oil are good Use one table-
spoonful of the oil to one cup of flour
and one teaspoonful of baking pow-
der mixing as usual
If the article fried in the oil is not
too rich so that the fryings out of It
mingle with the olive oil diluting it

This is taken up by the blood an 1 through it3 circulation distributed to all
