A HAPPY DAY
For more reasons than one the
people of the illnited States had a
right to be happy Tuesday not
only was the day the country
over spent in a great celebration
but the evening brought the
good news that the great coal
strike had been called off and
that the trouble that has been
growing between the miners and
' operators would be arbitrated
and under the direction of Sec-
retary Wilson of the department
of labor Many a thinking man
failed to thoroughly enjoy arm-
istice day when he knew that we
were in a great crisis on the labor
situation Let us hope that a sat-
isfactory solution and a lasting
one be found so that we need
never be brought face to face
with like conditions again

E X JAMESON Pastor
The M T C Oil & Gas Com-
pany is ready to ask the city for
a franchise to furnish the peo-
ple with domestic gas and at a
rate of not more than 30 cents
per thousand and agree to meet
any competition in price should
gas be offered for less money
This company is already furnish-
ing gas to large users the city
included at something like half
the price they are now asking
Tor domestic gas and the ques
tion arises would this be the
I right plan or would it not be bet-'
ter to have the city take over the !
Commonwealth the company
now supplying us with gas and
which is charging users at ‘the
rate of 40 cents net
The Democrat is not wholly
posted as to the conditions of the
franchise under which the pres-
ent company is operating In
fact there is somewhat of a ques-
tion if the company has any
franchise Be that as it may we
are inclined to -the view that if
the present company is paying to
the Oklahoma Natural 28 cents
for all the gas that it charges us
forty for that it would be better
for all concerned to buy the old
company End make a deal with
the M T C Company" If the lo-
cal company can operate its busi-
ness on 12 or 13 cents per thous-
and and pay rent then the city
can do likewise And if the new
company can furnish the city
with gas to run the power plant
at 15 cents then it surely would
be glad to furnish the city enough I
to supply its citizens at the same
price This would give us a
chance to get fuel gas at some-
thingness than thirty cents
It is very much against the
grain to know that we have a
great gas field a't our very door
and yet we are paying the same ‘
tribute to King Oklahoma Nat-
! ural as though we were located a
Hon Scott Ferris who is seek-
ing the place now filled by Sena-
tor Gore was in Wagoner last
Saturday meeting old friends
and getting acquainted with new
ones He was accompanied by
Albert Hunt who has charge of
his campaign in this part of the
state
Mr Ferris is in addition to
being one of the most efficient
congressmen of the state is one
of the most pleasant fellows im-
aginable and undoubtedly made
a good impression here He was
here but a few hours coming in
on the Iron Mountain at 9:30
o’clock and leaving overland for
Muskogee shortly after noon
