Singing is a mode of expression
in which most children take delight.
In the Primary Department the
first five minutes of the day are
devoted to this exercise and it is
plainly enjoyed by all, even the
smallest pupils singing with a hear-
ty good will, if not always with

should be inviting, the windows
kept bright and with curtains. If
there is an inviting room in the dis-
mct it should be the school room.
A thorough teacher must not lack
m neatness; a good school rneaus
many excellencies, not one.
Take for your motto "Hope is
my strength!" There is no bless-
ing equal to the possession of a
stout heart. liven if one fails in
his efforts, it will be a satisfaction
to hi as to enjoy the conscious-
ness of having done his best. In
humble life nothing can be more
cheering than to see a man combat-
ing suffering by patience, triumph-
ing ui integrity, and who, whJn his
teet are bleeding and his limbs fail
ing him, still walks upon his cour
age.
The measure of tlfie success of a
teaaher is not the amount the pupils
learn, but the mental activity that
exists. It may be roughly "stated
that interest is the measure of pro
gress in a school. The teacher who
can create an interest has the basis
ot success in him, but that interest
must be properly directed A bal-
let dancer may create an interest,
,ut it does not result in anything-

The pupils in second grade are
doing good work in original com-
position, writing stories suggested
by sections oh the chart. The fol
lowing are the ideas suggested to
one of them by the picture of two
little girls watching some swans
swimming on a pond:
Onee there was a little girl whose
name was K.ata Brown She lived
in the city. She went to visit her

was very glad to se.? her little friend
