CAHWAL GRAND SUCCESS
First Anniversary of Devol's Birth Celebrated by
Large Concourse of Citizens ot Town
and Surrounding Gountry
THE FAIR AS FINE AS ANY COUNTY FAIR
Exhibits Many and Varied — Fine Agricultural Dis-
play — Good Horses Shown---Womens De-
patment Filled With Handiwork-
Poultry Exhibit — Amusements
Devol’s great birthday celebra-
tion has come and gone and lias
left behind it a record of public
exercises and amusements pre-
pared and carried out for three
davs’ amusement of men women
and children an exhibit of farm
products live stock and skill of
ladies in cooking and needle-
work that would outshine many
county fairs There were some
disappointments in tlie way of
promised amusements not the
fault of the various committees
but everyone was good natured
fend friendly the weather was
delightful there was no dust
and there was plenty of ice-cold
drinking water-free to all fre-
quently and conveniently placed
en our streets within reach of
the smallest child All the little
treats for ladies and children in
the way of ice cream lemonade
pop corn candy peanuts etc
could be purchased at the many
fetands along the Midway Farm-
ers for 15 or 20 miles in every
direction and citizens and mem-
bers of lodges from all our
neighboring towns came and
Celebrated with us and went
away with nothing but praise for
all they saw and heard Picnic
dinners were the order of the
day and on every hand could be
seen groups of friends and neigh-
!ors spreading at the noon hour
the enticing Contents of baskets
full of all the good things farms
could produce and the skilled
and willing hands of farmers
wives could tastefully and at-
tractively prepare If the Car-
nival had been of no other bene-
fit it is worth every cent expend-
ed by reason of old acquintances
and friendships renewed and ce-
mented and new ones formed
Aside from that wC have learned
that we can raise as many prod-
ucts here as good or better tlmn
produced in other localities
Collect and arrange samples of
same with taste end skill and
bur merchants wv ill contribute
with the Utmost liberality for
fe m pie premiums to exhibitors
EVERYBODY WOKKt'D
The various committees the
names of which have b-en pre-
viously published workd un-
ceasingly for weeks prior to the
Carnival and gave time needed in
business freely arid ungrudg-
ingly up to the closing minutes
of the Fair that everyone would
come enjoy the occasion and go
it way pleased The committees
were assisted financially and
physically by business men and
Citizens and the ladies especially
made Exhibition Hall attractive
and pleasing In addition to this
farmers and their wives deserve
the highest praise for preparing
and bringing in such a profusion
and variety of exhibits
