Now that Secretary Hitchcock
is out the people of the Indian
Territory will hope for a little
more friendly consideration from
Mr Garfield on public matters
Secretary James ’ li Garfield
promises to visit Indian Territory
in the near future It seems to
be his aim to post himself on im-
portant matters before passing on
them
The house committee on con-
stitutional amendments of the
Texas legislature has reported
favorably to the State Constitu-
tion which gives women the
right of suffrage The South
Dakota Senate has passed a sim-
ilar bill
It is “Boss Haskell” now at
Muskogee The colored people
there regard him as a Moses and
if he ever asks for office he will
have colored support regardless
of his Democratic affiliations on
account of his fight against the
Jim Crow proposition Mr Has-
kell ought to have credit for tak-
ing the right stand on one impor-
tant matter in the convention
Chairman J II Hamon has is-
sued a call for a meeting of the
Organization Committee of the
Republican State Central Com-
mittee to be held at the Thread-
gill Hotel in Oklahoma City' n
March 8 The purj ose of this
meeting will be to discuss plans
fur ’he furthcoming campaign
an l to perfect a thorough organ-i-aiiii
f the party Mr Hu-
mun is confident of excellent re-
sults being achieved ut this
meeting and predicts the success
of the party at the polls
Warren I’ Chaney’s special
train left Muskogee Monday on
its tour over the Indian nations
with some thirty-two thousand
deeds which will be delivered at
various places Atoka is one of
the towns where deliveries will
be made for the Choctaws on
Wednesday March 20 Stone-
wall is the next station on the
north where the Chickasaws may
get their deeds Tuesday after-

will cover about six week
Much disturbance has been
credited to the spots on the sun
A teriffio electrical snow storm
swept the country from Pitts-
burg Pa to the sea on Tues-
day of this week The sun spots
have also been predited with evil
influence on the constitutional
convention causing that great
and powerful body to defeat
nearly all the proposed laws in
their platform There must be
something unusual to cause all
those carefully selected delega-
tes numbering one hundred to
change their minds after election
and break their solemn binding
obligations If the Democrats
at home will accept this theory
we believe the Republicans will
do the same but the condition of
the sun must bo noted before
election hereafter
It was said by many at the be-
ginning of the long tedious con-
vention of our prrstrt S dons
that Mr Asp would write the
con-tituticn Of euui-e it was
understood that be vvai 1 be as-
sisted by the other t h v i n Re-
publicans N ' v this state rr mt
has been verified On Tuesday
morning Messers Asp McCloud
Harris Hudson arid others pre-
sented the cionvertion with a full
and complete constitution Mr
Asp who presented the measure
requested that the entire docu-
ment be published at the expense
of the Republican delegates
alone The county lines and
county seats are left to the legis-
lature maintaining the present
boundaries and recording sta-
tions in the Indian Territory till
other provisions can be made
This constitution while apparent
ly satisfactory to the convention
will of course be rejected on the
ground that it is not Democratic
in its origin
Hunting Him Ip Now
Mr Editor:
Jim noticed in an editorial in
your paper of Feb- 28 where the
Democrats will likely huut him
up for support in the coming
election This is already the
case not that he deserves to be
in the white man’s company
(especially the kind who so much
depise him) but he surely has
sense enough to know that he
has a vote and will certainly use
it to the disadvantage of the
party that has done everything
in their power to prevent him
from being a full-fledged citizen
of this new state Jim asks no
special favors no advantage
but an equal show in life with all
