Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Sears, Roebuck, and Co., is the active, working partner of literally thousands of small, independent manufavturing firms all over the country who run their own business, and create payrolls for the support of local business. That it in a nutshell is the "business secret" of Sears' drive to keep prices down and quality always the equal of the competition. The store began, of course, like all other merchants, with flamboyant advertising of "bargains," often purchased so that the firm that made the merchandise was the big loser. But that system long since has faded into the background...Actually the system is the army buying method which Gen. Robert E. Wood set up during World war I to maintain supply. It is a simple system, with plenty of complicated detail attached in carry it out.........Sears has entered into partnership with these firms. The company writed the specification so that merchandise is uniform. It guarntees to take a certain amount of goods every year. That cuts out the gamble and the interest on borrowed money. (different article?: There are many pieces of new equipment in the new store. which makes it extremely convenient to shop there. Left, is the "door display," operated by Floyd Skeels with doors that roll in and out so you can examine them thourghly, pick out exactly what you want for delivery. Right, is the "sign shop," supervised by Mrs. Edna Mae Kinney which is in reality a very completely equipped printing office where signs of every description are produced.)"
