Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Leik loft Tuesday
morning for Denver, Colorado, after a
pleasant visit of several weeks dur-

Several new residence buildings are
under course of erection this week aud
work upon a number of others will
shortly be commenced.
W. T. Davis, the popular clerk of
the Johnson Hardwaro Co., loft Thurs-
day evening on a visit with friends
and relatives in Texas.
A couple of tho store rooms in the
new brick block are linished up ready
for the roof and the structure will soon
be ready for occupancy.
The growing cotton fields have been
humping themselves during tno past
few days time and the prospects for a
good crop are much brighter.
W. P. Leepor and wife came in from
tho Chickasaw country Wednesday
afternoon to participate In the
Masonic doings that evculng.
The stir and activity on Norman's
business streets Is a good evidence of
increased trado and it will constantly
grow better from this time hence.
Everybody will celebrate on the
glorious 4th. Good prospects here en-
courage our farmers and good times
for the farmers means good times for
all.

Mrs. Dr. Wood left tho latter part of
last week on a visit with rolatlves and
friends in Arkansas. Sho was accom-
panied by tho younger childron and
her father who for some time past has

Texas, writes us that ho is detained at
that city by tho severe Illness of his
son who Is quite low with an attack of
typhoid fover. Mr. Collins expected
to have returned ere this tlmo with his
family and his many friends here hopo
that he maj soon bo able to do so.
Prof. Harper, a gentleman from At-
lanta, Ga., has been hero for several
days lately prospecting and viewing
the many evidences of progress and
prosperity in southern Oklahoma. Ho
is much pleased with this country and
its people more cspoolally so, because,
he says, the people of his part of tho
country think Oklahoma Is a deserted
wilderness Instead of the well settled
and ndvaneod commonwealth It really
Is. Ho will be back In the near future
to permanently locate hero as he is
satisfied that this Is tho garden spot of
tho Universe.

Tho land contest case of R. W.
Woods vsK. W. Allison for a valuable
claim near Lexington, in this county,
has boon decided in favor of Woods,
which fact will bo pleasing news to
Bob's many friends in this vicinity.
Holly Ridley was up from Lexington
Thursday looking for a farm to rent in
this vicinity, the coming year. Ho is
much pleased with tho prosperous ap-
pearance of this neighborhood and
will likely locato here in a short time.
II. M. Carleton was up from Noble
Thursday afternoon on business. Mr.
Carleton has boon confined to his room
for some ti mo past from a severe at-
tack of illness and has only just re-
covered sufllcunt, to bo able to get
around.
II. F. Hartley has purchased a half
interest In tho business of W. A. An-
derson. The new firm starts out with
bright prospects and as their location
is a choice one and both gentlemen are
popular, we predict a successful busi-
ness career for thom.
A couple of gentlemen from Law-
rence, Kansas, were hero tho early
portion of this week looking for a loca-
tion to establish an exclusive clothing
house. They were well pleased with
the prospects in Norman and will
doubtless locate bore shortly.
Traveling Auditor L. E. Damon,
audited the accounts of the Santa Fe
station at this placo Monday and once
more found them to bo correct. Agent
Klngkade is a careful and popular gen-
tleman with the railroad company, tho
peoplo hero and tho public generally.
Tho farmers expectations regarding
tho satisfactory yield of grain In Okla-
homa seem to be holding out judging
from the reports so far returned. Quite
a number of pieces have already been
threshed out and tho yield is reportod
to bo from twenty-two to forty bushels
per acre.
Wm. McClure, of the Pottawattomlo
country, shipped six car load of oattlo
to Chicago Monday of this week. D.
M. Phillips of Oklahoma City, shipped
out three car loads on Wednesday to
Chicago and was compelled to come to
this point to ship as Oklahoma City
has no stock shipping faoilities.
Mr. Anderson, with his new Deerlng
self-binder, cut the field of oats on the
Kingkade farm Tuesday of this woek.
It Is said that tho above mentioned
field of o^ts were the best In this vicin
Ity and their excellence was due no
doubt, to the careful and thorough
mannor In whleh the field was sown.
A large number of the creditors of
the late Commercial bank here were
made happy Monday of this week by
receiving tho amounts duo them from
Receiver J. P. Boyle. Between four
and five thousand dollars was paid out
and thai sura iu the present close
times, is of considerable benefit to
those who get it,

Tho presentation of tho old but ever
popular play, "Among tho breakers"
by local talent hereon tho evening of
July 4th, will be well worthy tho at-
tendance of our peoplo. Former
presentations hero were given under
many difficulties chiefly owing to the
fact that we had at that time no suit-
able ball or stage. The ptay will be
rendered next in the opera house and
wo prophesy a good attendance and a
complete evening's entertulnment.

son, Topoka St Santa Fe railroad com-
pany have now been placed In tho
hands of tho various railroad agents at
stations most convenient for the payers;

settlers most cordial and timely assis-
tance last year it is confidently ex-
pected that the makers of those notes
will voluntarily call upon the agents
and make payment as promptly as pos-
sible after the harvest.

The installation of tho newly elected
officers of Norman Lodge No. 38, A. F.
i A. M., in this city last Wednesday
veniug was an event of importance
and much pleasure to tho Masonic
brethren here and uitw y Invited guests
presont. The spacious Welch & Ad-
kins hall was finely docorated and
arranged for tho occasion and after tho
installation services In tho Masonic
hall, tho brethren and visitors assem-
bled tOgethor for speeches, music bo-
iability and supper. W. P. Leoper,
for tho past year Worshipful Master of
the Norman Lodge, presided with
capability and honor to himself and
the Lodge. Dr. V. A. Wood delivered
the address of tho evening and it was
worthy and masterly effort and
showed tho doctor's thorough under-
standing of his subject and tho benefits
and blessings of Freemasonry to advan-
tage. A splendid supper was partaken
of and although the hall was well filled
with Masons, their wives and children,
friends and Invited guests, there was
an abundance of substantial and ull
delicacies of the season for all In at-
tendance and many more. After sui -
per followed music, general conversa-
tion and sociability, and it was fully
midnight before the gathering dis-
persed. No more evontful or happy
occasion could be wished for and It will
loug be remembered with pleasure by
everyone in attendance.
