creation and for the delightful
respite it offers from every day
cares. It is especially commended
to him because it inculcates certain
virtues, among which aro content-
ment and patience, but the greatest
nf these is patience, whereby I10 is
enabled to sit all day on a log, wait-
ing for ft bite that mayhap never
comes.
Now-a days fishing is prosecuted
under somewhat different surround-
ings than it was in old Izaak's
time. There are lacking some of
the finished landscapes and the
rural charm of old England, the
result of centuries of cultivation.
There are no buxom milk-maids to
beguile the weary fisherman with
rustic songs as he rests by a
bloomin' hedgerow. At present
there are few, if any trout, crappie
are abundant, besides numerous
perch, and the sluggish mud cat is
not to be despised. \\ ith these be
can be well content, and if he
catches one or fifty he is not cast
down nor vain-glorious hut takes
what comes to his hand with a
proper spirit. Like all lovers of the
art he is jealous of bis reputation as
an angler, which perhaps leads
somewhat to exaggeration in re-
lounting the number and size of
the fish he takes. And he can also
ly with old Izaak: "I envy not
him that eats better meat than I
do, nor him that wears better
clothes than 1 do; 1 envy nobody
but him and him only, that catches
more fish than I do."

THE TRAMP PRINTER.
Tramp printers are numerous
There are many on the road at
present. Quite a number have
drifted into our sanctum during
the last few months, from the
young gent who has just learned
the trade to the old gray-headed
man, who has been on the cases for
years. We could dilate upon the
printer in an article that would fill
a column, from the time in the
early days when he was prosperous,
work being plentiful and prices
good, down to the present, since, by
reason of the machine the profession
has been revolutionized and thous-
ands thrown out ot employment.
