conventions of each can only be
estopped from so declaring bj the
successful work of the bosses. How-
ever, the sentiment is so pronounced
that it is quite safe to predict that the
national conventions of lwti, i'> the
absence of satisfactory congressional
legislation, will all pronounce in
favor of the free coinage of silver, in
which event the successors to the
present administration will crystalize
such demand and sentiment into the
law. 1
So strong is the conviction that a
majority of the people are for silver,
that, as was seen by recent
dispatches, old time partisan
leaders formulate a declaration and
send it out over their own proper
W signatures.
''',c There are very few congressional
districts in the I'nited States, not
even accepting those made up of the
wards or cities, in which an opponent
of silver could be elected to congress,
that question being an issue, or even
generally discussed.
There is but one thing that can
possibly Btay the demand for free
coinage and that one thing is the re-
turn of good times. But how prices
are to be restored and prosperity
again come to the country with half
of its redemption money not only cut
down but made redeemable by the
