CONSUMPTION.
Consumption is believed to be more
prevalent in Ireland than in either
hngland or Wales. Pulmonary disea.se
is about the only inulady from which
the Irish as a race suffer. They have
long been noted as being the finest
race physically in Europe. Why
should they have Consumption more
than any other? Perhaps because they
pay less attention to taking cold.
When you take cold, get a boitle of
Reid's German Cough and Kidney Cure
and take it. Do not neglect it and put
it off. It is not a thing that you can
fool with. Small bottles are twenty
fire cents; large size, fifty cents. You
can get it of any dealer, only be sure
that you do get it.

was learned from hijfh authority that
if the conference was prolonged
yond three weeks, the leading English
representatives would return to F,c

bers of the delegation to watch the
proceedings.
Private advices from Brussels show
that Sir C. Kivers Wilson opened the
oposition to prolonged debates as s n>n
as the delegates beiran their inter-
communications and objected to the
proposal that President Levi mad
the suggestion of the American dele-
gates, supported by a majority of tho
conference, that an interval
of a day for preparation be
allowed between each sitting. The
reasonable remonstrance that the
delegates who spoke different lan
guages—English. French and German
—could not exchange views without
un opportunity to study, had no effect
upon the English determination to
hurry the deliberations through. C.
Kivers Wilson and his colleagues only
finally assented to President Levi's
proposal on finding that they stood
alone. The incident has created
the impression among the members
of the conference that the English
delegates want to break up the meet-

In the meantime they have received
a decisive check A great majority of

Mindtry, snd there transfer to other
lines that will take him to the west-

twenty-five miles for 5 centa The
scheme is simple enough, but if it Is
carried out it will provide the city
with a gigantic plan of passenger
transportation, that is unapproached
in any other of our large cities.
| It has been found by several years*
experience that the attempt to edu-

Another plan for the benefit of the

Several night schools are to be estab-
lished, at least three in the part of the
city in which most of them live, some-
Jwhere in the down town blocks of
^Market and Walnut streets. The In-
struction will not be entirely free; it
has been decided that it will be wiser
to make the Chinese student under-
stand that he must pay for his books,
anyway. The salaries of the teachers,
all of whom are to be men and women
and who have formerly taught the
Chinese in Sunday schools, will be

of missionary societies will con-

I Money is more plentiful, and com
mands lower rates of interest in St.
Ijouis nnd Philadelphia than in any
other cities of the United States Mi^ch
of the idle capital here has been put
into trust companies lately, but from
the organization of two rather original
enterprises the other day it seems that
there are enough moneyed men to
make experiments with their capital
if their appears to he a legitimate pros-
pect of a fuir profit in the schemes pro-
posed. One of these new companies
has bought an island in the Mississippi
river, about forty miles from St. Louis,
nd has planted it with 800 pecan
trees. The men at the head of the
company are confident that . they will
make a lot of money as soon as the
trees begin to bear. They claim
that the}' have on their island about
the same climate that there is in those
parts of Texas where the best pecan
nuts grow.
The other company was organized to
buy apple orchards in Illinois and Mis-
souri and plant more trees than their
present owners are able to manage.
The owners of the orchards have in
most cases gone into the companies,
and when they were unwilling to do
this tho companies have bought their
farms outright. This scheme was sug-
gested to the St. Louis investors by
tho condition of the apple crop of tho
United States for the past three years,
during w hich time the east has had to
look to Illinois and Missouri for the
bulk of its apples. The operations of
this company will make St, Louis tho
largest apple market in the country in
a few yearn. It is very near that now,
New York being tho only city which

■uld be productive of important benefit
to the world. These ends will b accotn-
plished by the removal of the legal restric-
tions now existing and ihe coinage of
silver into full legal tender
money, restoring by internation il agree-
ment the parity or values between the
metals, which existed prior to H7I. at such
% ratio as the conference may decide upon
1 he e.sscirtals of such an international ar-
rangement should be: The unrestricted
coinage of both gold and silver into money
of fir.I debt paying power, fixing a ratio in
the coinage between the metals and tho
establishment of a uniform charge, if anv

I he attitude of the conference leaves
little doubt that the American plan will
be rejected. The (icrinan and Austrian
delegates are strongly against any
measure which would necessitate any
change of moment in existing legisla-
tion on the money question.
