A DEMOCRAT ON FUSION.
This paper is making 110 light
on the rank and tile of the popu-
list party. Our objection to fu-
sing with the 111 does not arise
from any personal dislike we
have for them or their princi-
ples. Our observation is that
fusion is a failure in every sense
of the word. That it weakens

to be imposed upon by

are willing to reform anything
but their own ways. One of the
really amusing things t hat they
did was in the nomination of
the machine candidate for coun-

the business committee of the

bid in by the democrats, and the
latter, in their mock nominating
convention, ignored the men of
their party who had been prac-
ticinglaw for from 15 to 80 years,
and nominated a boy who was
admitted to the practice of law
less than" six months ago. This

jjoke, but if it was it's a mighty
poor one. The News has the

from all political principles for
spoils, it is the invention of the
office-hunter and a curse of the

republican nomination for regis-

native of Illinois and came to Ok-

been a republican all his life, hav-
ing never wavered nor faltered
in his devotion to the principles
of his party. He is a man of un-

Those who know him well stand
ready to vouch for his character
and habits as being such as
would commend him to the vot-

He has held official positions in
his native state with credit to
