BLANCHARD FARMERS
TO INSTALL OWN GIN
Will Meet With County Agents
Saturday To Disouss Proposi-
tion; Two In Operation.
BLANCHARD, Feb. 11.—Farmers
of this county will meet here Satur-1
day to discuss the feasibility of form-
ing a company ;yid building a farm-
ers' co-operative gin. County Agent
W. O. Cromwell has been asked to
meet with them, and will advise them,
in the matter. Many farmers in this
end of McClain and in Grady coun-
ty are cxpected here Saturday.
Two gins are being operated here
now, one by D. C. Morgan and an-
other by H. J. Slack, the latter gin
being owned by the Iniahoma Gin
company.
Many improvements are being
planned in the Jewel theatre by the
new owner, Alf Binyon, who bought
out his partner, G. P. Kidd, last week.
NEAR EAST DRIVE OPENS
IN COUNTRY NEXT WEEK
The Near East Relief committee
which is putting on the drive in the
United States is intending to reach
sufferers among the Armenians,
Syrains Greeks, and Persians.
The suffering that has no prece-
dent in human history exists among
these people. We have Herbert
Hoover's words for existing condi-
tions. He says in the Near East is
the most desperate situation in the
world.
The Armenians call forth especial-
ly our sympathy and interest. Ar-
menia was a strong compact kingdom
as early as 10000 B. C. The more
glorious than her political carer was
her conversion to Christianity in the
third century. She became the first
Christian nation.
Treating the Armenians who be
come subjects to Turkey as cattle
there valiant people have lonfc suf
tered persecution at the hands of the
Ottoman.
Despite persecution they have de
ve!oi>ed a worthy art and literatute
ct their own. The first foreigner
v Sir was a naturalized American ci:
izen was an Armenian. Armenia has
given us beside business men,
latively larger proportion of^ college
professors than any other race
There are prominent scientists and
physicians, artist, and ministers from
this noble people.
The starvation faces millions un-
less aid comes to alleviate their des-
titution. In the words of Rabb
Wise "The Armenians must be kept
alive."
The Near East drive takes place
February 15-22.

YOUTH SWEPT FROM TOP
OF SUB CONNING TOWER
Hinging the theme of "The Great-
est Question," now howing at the
University theatre, on a death
brought about when the sole support
of a family is swept from the conning
tower of a submarine, D. W. Griffith
has accomplished one of the most un-
usual incidents ever seen in a motion
picture.
But the physical difficulty of hav-
ing a youth swept from one of the
largest submarines of the United
States war fleet and the arranging of
such a feat to be filmed only serves
as the background for the powerful,
indomitable thought—"What of the
Hereafter?'"
CEMETERY ROAD IS CONDEMNED
Editor of Transcript, ,~
Norman, Oklahoma.
Dear Sir:
I read with interest the article by Mr. J. J. Burke in rues
day's Transcript concerning the streets within our city limits.
Our city should have at least one street leading from the
pavement to the Cemetery so that funeral protfcssions-could pro-
ceed to the Cemetery without danger. Yesterday (Tuesday) the
streets were in such condition that it was almost impossible
for a funeral procession to get from the corner of Boyd and
Chatauqua streets to the Cemetery.
We should have some regulation concerning the digging
of ditches across the street for water lines. Either the property
owners or the plumbers or others doing this work should see
tliat these ditches are properly filled. 1 here are now three of
these ditches on Boyd street between Elm and Lahoma and any
of these will test severely the springs and wheels of any car
which passes over them.
On account of such ditches it was necessary, a few months
ago to have the boys in my office work the street in two places
before a funeral procession could pass from my home to the
pavement.
Much of the bad conditions of our streets is due to the
carelessness of adjacent property owners as well to the fact that
streets are not cared for by the city.
Yours verv truly,
C. W. SHANNON.
