The Ceremony in Secret.
The secrecy Mrs. Castle and
Captain Treman had striven for

Rural Sanitation
From the State Hoard of Health
Oklahoma City. Dr. A. R.
Lewis, Commissioner.
That general health conditions
are better in rural than urban dis-
tricts has been claimed for ages.
In every known age and civiliza-
tion people havt gone to the
country for their health, while
it is rare that a visit to the city
is recommended for that purpose.
Nevertheless the greatest im-
provements in sanitary conditions
in recent decades and the conse-
quent reduction in the death rate
A STICKLER FOR TRUTH
When Theodore II, filler was
the editor, owner, manager, sub-
scription agent, and financier of a
weekly paper somewhere in the
tlark r reaches of Georgia, he adop
t«*<! a policy of "absolute truth and
fairness" toward everybody. -N'o
malcontent or breaker of the law
could expect anything but "piti-
less publicity" from the doughty
editor.
To this the leading citizen- soon
objected frequently, advancing the
complaint that Mr. Tiller some-
times was guilty of exaggeration.
The editor 4iimsclf began after a
while to wonder whether their
clarges were warranted,. \nd he
almost thought they were one
morning when he received this
communication from one of the
old gentlemen of the village

ler for truth, fairness, and justice,

Some Practical Precautions

Two-thirds of the live stock in the
United States has to be raised in
the West.
One-half of the consumers of meat
live in the East.
In other words, most of the live
stock is one or two thousand miles
distant from most of the people who
need it in the form of food.
Fifty years ago, when live stock was
raised close to every consuming cen-
ter, the country butcher could handle
the job after a fashion.
But the job got too big.
Now millions of animals have to be
moved hundreds of miles to millions of
people. Somewhere on the way they
have to be turned into meat.
The packers solved the problem.
They set up plants where the "live
haul" and the "meat haul" were in
the right balance. They built up
distributing systems—refrigerator cars,
refrigerating plants, branch houses.
They saved time, money and meat
everywhere. The stockraiser bene-
fited in better markets and higher
prices; the consumer, in better meat
and lower prices.
As the country grew, the packers
had to grow, or break down. Because
of its present size and efficiency,
