Acting on infornwition received
from Oklahoma City officers that
whiskey runners were on their way
from Wichita Falls, Texas to Okla-
homa City with two Ford automobiles
loaded with whiskey, Sheriff Wheel-
is and Deputy Grover Fulkerson arid
possees have been looking out for
them since 11 o'clock yesterday morn-
ing, and about 9 o'clock this morning
the sheriff and deputy succeeded in
capturing the whiskey, two of the
men, and a Ford machine at a point
about four miles west of the South
Canadian bridge, near the farm of
Harry Lindsay, Messrs. Wheelis and
Fulkerson "'got the drop" on the men
and they did not resist, and whiskey,
men and Ford.. were brought to Nor-
man.
The men refuse to give their names,
but one of them is known to be a man
named Bass, well known as a whis-
key runner, with headquarters at
Packingtown. They are men about 35
and 55 years of age.
The information sent by the Okla-
homa City officers indicated that the
two machines were near Mustang, I
waiting for the waters of the South
Canadian to recede so they could get
across to Oklahoma City. They waited
there three days, and the river being
still unfordable, they finally came
south to the Norman bridge, reaching
that point about 8:30 this morning.
There they saw the officers searching
another automobile and "turned tail" (
and drove west with the officers after
them. When Sheriff Wheelis and Dep-
uty Fulkerson came up with them,
there was only one machine in charge
of the two men. All the whiskey had
been loaded into this one machine and
the other had left, presumably to get
more gasoline. The men were sitting
on a mattress under a tree in a can-
yon when the officers drove up, and
made no effort to avoid or resist cap-
ture.
Excellent work on the part of the
officers, such work that will make
bootleggers and whiskey runners give
Cleveland county a wide berth.
The captured Ford will be con-
fiscated and the whiskey destroyed.
Officers are now after the other Ford
with excellent chances of capturing
it and its driver.

Beating Back
According to the Oklahoman,
"Beating Back," the moving picture
protraying A1 Jenning's career, was
the cause of the killing of Sheriff Geo.
Arnold at Chandler a day or two ago.
According to thte story, Willie O'Con-
nell, 23, and Louis Barnard, 1G, went
to see "Beating Back." and the same
night broke into a mercantile estab-
lishment and robbed it. When Arnold
went to arrest them, they resisted
and shot him to death. The boys told
the officers: " Beating Back' is a
great picture, ain't it?"
