TO ENCOURAGE IMMIGRATION.
The Hock Island System is making
an effort to encourage immigration
into Oklahoma, as well as to interest
capitalists and business and profes-
sional men in the territory.
In this undertaking it should have
the active co-operation of every
resident, for this 1 eason: The more
people there are in Oklahoma, the
higher the price of land will be and
the greater will be the prosperity of
every man and woman in it. The
plan which will be followed is to pub-
lish. in eastern farm journals, let-
ters from farmers and buslneis men
who have made money by coming to
hould go into
extent of stating how
I much money the writer had when he
I arrived, what he did. what success he
, has met with and what he thinks of
that portion of Oklahoma in which
he is located. In order to prepase
•such a letter, it is not necessary that
the writer should possess special
qualifications as a literary man. On
the contrary, a plain straightforward
statement of facts is of much greater
value than florid descriptions of cli-
mate and other advantages.
Photographs, not of persons, but of
cattle, feed lots, growing crops,
harvesting operation^, etc., can be
used to advantage.
Letters are desired not only from
farmers and farmers wives, but also
from merchants, school teachers,
clergymen from everyone, in brief,
who has a story to tell and who
knows how to tell it.'

Press Democrat was in the city yes-
terday. He paid tbe Wave a friendly
visit.
Our idea of a democratic victory is
when the party secures the control
of any government. The republicans
pulled the city government. The
election of five side officers is not a
democratic victory.
The democratic newspapers did net
win any victory In the election yes-
terday. It is not often that a demo-
cratic newspaper does win any vic-
tory in Kind even though the whole
or half the democratic ticket is
elected. There is no city printing in
this election for a democratic news-
paper, but we can keep the govern-
ment straighter without it.

in a few hours after tbe downpour the
water had nearly all drained off, and
this morning the streets had the ap-

An Enid man is noted for a good
deal of growling. The other day he
was complaining to a lot of friends
because he could eat only two meals
a day. He can't eat what he likes at
all. He says he used to like mush and
milk and corn bread, neither of which
he can eat now. He thinks he has
more trouble than anybody in town.
How could the democratic candi-
