Seriate Sparing With The House Will Hendrix Commits Murder
Washington, April 23.—The state- j
hood conference today developed futher
determination by the senate managers
|
to avoid coming to a direct issue in the
statehood matter by devoting the ses-1
sions to a hearing. The house manag-
ers are attempting to rush matter and
Congressman Hamilton says he is eager
to have twice-a-day sessions if neces-
sary to settle things. The action of
the senate managers is variously in-
terpreted on one hand as sparring for
time to force Cannon to complete sur-
render; on the other as a desire on the
part of Senator Beveridge who was
whipped on the floor by the senate, to
let the other statehood bill die.
All minor matters, including the
capital location and mineral land claus-
es are already agreed upon and Brick
has a report ready aliminating Warrens
amendment and providing instead that
lands be leased to the highest bidder.
Yet Beveridge is inviting hearing on
a wide range of subjects.
The Shawnee delegation got busy
around the capital today, and made
considerable headway on behalf of the
projects in which Shawnee is interested.
The delegation comprises Charles F.
Barrrett, H. G. Beard, R. E. Wood,
and W. L. Williams. Mr. Barrett, by
reason of his wide acquaintance and
range of information on Oklahoma, is
proving helpful to the statehood cause
which appears in a bad way just now.
He was invited to appear before the
conferees and together with Governor
Frantz, clashed swords with the Stand-
ard Oil representative over the Warren
amendment.
Last Sunday afternoon, near Hart,
I. T., Will Hendrix shot and killed
his father-in-law, Mr. Voss. He came
to Ada Tuesday and surrendered to
the Federal authorities. As he war
the only eye witness of the killing the
facts as given by him are ail we have
and are about as follows: He claims
that when he returned home from Roff
Sunday afternoon his wife informed
him that her father wished to see him.
