A $10 Coupon Book
Three months ago J. B. Dickerson
opened up
A New Stock of Groceries
in Norman
and he was favored with such a fine
patronage that with the beginning of
the new year he added a
Meat Market Department
to the store
and increased the size of the Grocery
Stock until it would be hard for you
to find a better stock anywhere.
He would very much appreciate a
trial to please being given him by the
many people in Norman and Norman
vicinity who have not favored him
with a visit or trial.
Secure from him a $10 Coupon Book
and after you have traded it out you
will be sure to want him to send you
another book,
A Trial Makes a Customer
of You.

The University of Oklahoma has a
student whose history reads like a
chapter from one of the novels of
Maxim Gorky. He i- a kussian too.
His name is Ossip De I'orte. Young
I>c Porte was once a student in the
University of Warsaw, hut lie and
his father anil brothers ha l certain
peculiar notions about the rights and
equality of man which kept bubbling
over and bringing them to the notice
of the watchful servants of the Lzar.
The property of the De Portes was
confiscated and one morning Ossip
woke to contemplate the monotonous
plains about Warsaw from the win-
dow of a prison car. He escaped and
went to Germany. The obliging hench-
men of the Kaiser handed him over
to the Czar again, and once more lie
found it necessary to escape. 1 his
time he went to Switzerland and en-
rolled in the university of Berne.
Things became uncomfortable at
Berne and he crossed the pond to
New York. Desiring to become a real
American, as he put it, he came west
last year and enrolled in the Univer-
sity of Oklahoma. This fall he return-
ed from New York with a bride. Mrs.
De Porte is now studying at the Uni-
versity for a medical degree. De Porte
is one of the most brilliant students
at the University. He is a master of all
subjects and in mathematics is almost
prodigy. He is also one of the best
chess players in the west.

Oh sainted memory of the decorous
Vergil and the Harping Homer. Has
culture, and especially that which per-
tains to the dead languages been so
far forgotten in the day of the money-
mania that our colleges and universi-
ties cannot produce men who have ac-
quired enough of that learning which
every tyro was expected to know in
the days of old Samuel Johnson, to
qualify for the Rhodes scholarship.
Word has just been received from
Oxford that all six of the undergradu-
ates from the various Oklahoma col-
leges, who stood the examination, fail-
ed to make qualifying grades. While
other and older states have been fail-
ing to return eligibles, Oklahoma has
taken pride in the fact that at each
examination a candidate has been sent
from this state to the venerable scat
of learning. Now it would seem that
our educational prestige is slipping
even as that of certain common-
wealths in the decadent east. Have
we no yoiing men in Oklahoma fa-
miliar enough with the classic ton-
gues to garner that degree and the
appurtenant $1,500 per annum f
