Results of Airplane Spraying

Description: Photograph of a series of photos showing the results of airplane spraying of pine and oak. Area sprayed on May 25, 1954. Picture taken on June 10, 1954. Pine showed considerable damage. 50% to 75% of needles showed damage and 50% to 75% if all new growth showed characteristic twist from 244 5 T. All of undesirable undergrowth show damage.

Flood Detention Structure on Washita River

Description: Photograph of approximately 6" of rain fell above this site in the period of four days. On April 27th, 1954, 2" fell in twenty five miinutes, 3" fell in one hour on April 29 and 1" fell on April 30. Water rose approximately seven feet above the drow-down structure and had seven feet to go before it reached spillway level. Note the water being discharged out of the 24" drawdown structure in the grove of trees at the base of the dam. Aerial view.

Largest Cypress Tree in Okla.

Description: Photograph of Earl J. Hayne, WUC. This old cypress (taxoduim distichum) is the largest tree in Oklahoma. It measures 13 1/2 ft. in diamator and 45 ft. in circumference. This tree has been a landmark since the early history of Oklahoma. The "trail of tears" came by this tree that was a sizable sapling with Christ was on earth. This monarch of the plant would be determined to be over 2,000 years old. It is protected by lightning rods to prevent further damage.

Description: Photograph of a follow-up from photo TX 49-126A. The picture shows a homemade range pitter made from a one-way and mounted or a power lift [sic] of an Allis Chalmers tractor. Description: Photograph of range pitting applied in the summer of 1953 that is growing good cover of annual weeds. Tallow weed; Huisache daisy; Texas and California filaree; blue flax and Dakota verbena. Buffalo grass and tobosa grass spreading in pits. Note the complete absence of vegetation between the pits resulting from three years of drought. TX-48-985.
