Carter Oil Co. and Carter Nine, Osage County

Description: Photograph of the Carter Oil Company operations and company town in the Burbank Oil Field in Osage County, Oklahoma. The town was named Carter Nine. The name derived from a combination of the Carter Oil Company and the community's location in Section 9 of Township 26 north, Range 6 east. The same coordinates are printed on the face of the photograph. The town grew to some 300 houses and a post office.

Aciel H Shelby's General Store

Description: Photograph of the interior of Aciel H. Shelby's General Store, Nelagoney, OK, c. 1903-1910. Mr. Selby operated the United States Post Office and owned the local bank. The Selby family lived on the Osage Indian Reservation in Osage County, Oklahoma, until they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, sometime in the 1930's.
