Simpson, Jr. of Eufaula, Oklahoma. 25 Aberdeen Angus cattle grazed on 26 acres of this Bermuda pasture from early spring until late fall. Description: Photograph of a squatters' shack on 40 acres of land belonging to a firm of investment brokers. Tenants say they have cut 1000 pine poles from adjoining fields in the last two or three months. Two men cut about 20 cross-ties a day. High quality timber is thus being wastefully cut. With proper care this timber would provide high-grade, salable building material. This tract will revert to McCurtain County and will go on resale in May, 1941. OK-8140.

Description: Photograph of Terry Mccarty, who points to the top of an old fence. He built new fence when silt piled up on 1/2 acre of his bottomland. Silt washed down from road and pasture of inferior vegetation that did not adequately protect soil in heavy downpour on June 22, 1948., a natural drain in the middle of the pasture becoming a gully. Silt averaged 3 feet [unclear] or 6,000 tons over 1/2 an acre. OK-9654.

Description: Photograph of wind erosion control in a peanut filed by strip cropping with 12 rows of peanuts and 4 rows of hegari forage sorghum. Peanuts have been pulled and stacked and shocked and the hegari has been headed. Hergari stalks will be left in the field to control blowing during the winter. Mr. W. A. Hardesty, shown here, said he he planned to follow the peanuts with a winter cover crop of rye grass or vetch and oats. Field is tempered. OK-8413.

Fish and Wildlife Management

Description: Photograph of a properly managed, average size farm pond. It will cheaply produce sufficient fish to furnish farm families with all of the essential protein, minerals and vitamins needed for a balanced diet.
