Description: A photograph postcard showing the Missouri, Kansas & Texas (MKT) "Katy" 596 & 530, 2-6-0's, approaching Altus, OK, northbound with 41 cars, 30 mph. These were probably empties returning for another load of wheat. Track is now owned by State of Oklahoma-but operated by Katy.

Description: A photograph postcard showing the Missouri, Kansas & Texas (MKT) "Katy" 555, 2-6-0, posed by the hostler for photo at Altus, OK. The accomodating hostler often posed enginers for me with rods at the bottom of the wheels. These engines pulled freight between Wichita Falls, TX, and the Oklahoma panhandle.

Santa Fe (ATSF) Motor Car M-162 (neg)

Description: A 5 x 7 photograph negative showing Santa Fe Motor Car M-162 gas-electric "doodlebug", on passenger train No. 46, running through the Wichita Mountains near Lugert, OK, King Mountain in the background. The daily run was 519 miles between Wichita, KS, and San Angelo, TX: two sets of equipment were required, Motors M-160, M-161 and M-162 were assigned so that one at a time could be overhauled or be available for emergencies.

Description: A photograph print showing Santa Fe (ATSF) gas-electric # 152, on train #46, one car, passing through the Wichita Mtns. near Lugert, OK. King Mtn. is in the background. These trains make 519-mile runs daily between Wichita, KS. and San Angelo, TX. Until 1929, this line was the Kansas City, Mexico & Orient RR. Pictured track is part of a 3-mile relocation due to the increase in height of the Lugert dam.
