Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Description: Photograph of site # 17, Sandstone Creek, near Cheyenne, OK. Photo taken at the same time there was approx. 6.6 feet of water over the drawdown structure. The water level came within several feet of the emergency spillway elevation which is on the right side of the lake. Also note 17-A at the left site of the photo and the stream discharge down by the ranch headquarters below the reservoir site. OK 10-847.

Description: Photograph of the baling sericea lespedeza on the Andrew J. Costner farm, 3 miles NW of Heavener, OK. Mr. Costner is a supervisor of the LeFlore County Soil Conservation District. Charles Nobles, custom hay baler, and Roy Erwin, Work Unit Conservationist of the Soil Conservation Service, checking the quality of the sericea lespedeza hay. Twenty acres of sericea lespedeza meadow produced 509 bales of top quality hay. OK-10-873-B.

Many of these windmills and tanks dot Woods County. Water is found at shallow depth and this well is 40 feet deep. Water facilities well distributed over the area promotes uniform grazing."

A Flood Detention Structure on a Tributary of the Washita River

Description: Photograph of a flood detention structure on a tributary of the Washita River. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Approximately 6" of rain fell above this site in the period of four days. On April 27, 1954, 2" fell in twenty-five minutes; 3" fell in one hour on April 29; and 1" fell on April 30.
