NEWARK N J Jan 15 — A
warning that every alien who advo-
cates the overthrow of the American
government by force or who belongs
to an organisation holding such
views will be deported ‘‘as fast as

last night by Secretary of Labor

defnded his department’s policy if
respect to radical agitators Mr Wil-v
son said that 4000 aliens who were
physically and mentally unfit or
who believed in the destruction of
the government by violence had
been deported since the armistice
without any particular attention be-
ing paid to them by the public but
that the departure of the Buford
-with 249 anarchists had caused an
accusation that the men were being
deported because of their radical
views
“Every one who lives here” he
said “has the right to radical views
and has the right to try and con-
vince you and me but when he
tries to force his views on you and
the government he has no right to f
send him back to the country from

LOUISVILLE Ky Jan 16—
John Barleycorn’s knockout defi-
nitely completed tomorrow when
he takes the final count with the
advent of national prohibition will
be keenly felt In Kentucky where
bonded warehouses bulge with un-
attainable millions of gallons ot

as Kentuckians commonly express-
' Early In December best estimates
were that 35000000 gallons with
an ordinary wholesale value of about
$400000000 were under the guard-
ianship of Uncle Sam being mellow-
ed and ' awaiting withdrawal from
bond Most of It whiskey men say

other commercial hasards Including

Its vislssltudes form an interest-
ing chapter Early In 1919 Us own-
ers refused to be stampeded by the
probable advent of wartime prohib-
ition When they saw that law be-
come effective July 1 they sat
tight and awaited developments
With the constitutionality of the
wartime law determined early in
December they were shocked into
action and vainly tried to export it
now they wait hoping for s miracle
that will enable them to convert It
from a liability Into an asset and
turn it into cash
They had pinned their hopes on
executive action In lifting the war-
time bane ‘Tomorrow" it was
whispered ‘‘President Wilson by
proclamation will declare demobi-
lization of the army completed and
the whiskey ban will be off
“Tomorrow' never came
Finally came a rnling from the
Department of Internal revenue al-
most coincident with the Supreme
Court’s wartime prohibition decis-
ion that all whiskey Intended for
export must be out of the country
by January 16 when constitutional
prohibition was to become effective
A scramble ensued for a safe har-
bor In the prohibition storm In-
terests at southern ports with their
rail connections suggested Cuba as
a convenient place to sequester
John Barley corn Railroads came
forward with offers of cars port
interests and steamship companies
bid for the potential business and
the United States Shipping Board of-
fered to allocate enough ships to
move the whiskey stock to the Is-
land Then the blow fell Neither Ha-
vana nor any other Cuban port had
warehouse facilities sufficient to
care for the ocean of liquid which
was about to be outlawed Ingenious
minds suggested shipments of col-
lapsible American steel houses along
with whiskey shipments to be quick-
ly erected in Havana or vicinity
It sounded well until somebody be-
gan to figure on the cost A dis-
tiller announced the belief that the
project would bankrupt anybody
who tried it and the plan was aban-
doned Gradually It was said export
shipments were centered In the
hands of a New York Corporation
which began sending them to Ham-
burg for German sale and consump-
tion and what stocks have left the
country largely- have been handled
in that manner
