Gay social events in New York have
biought into prominence the sudden
popularity of red and deep pink for
the evening.
NEW YORK Dec. ll.-Nevr York
today is a brilliant panoramic view. It
is a gorgeously staged moving picture
of America's prosperity. Women move
in it caparisoned in much the same
manner as if a theatrical manager had
put on the screen at great expense a
moving picture showing the elaborated
Komeo and Juliet. In truth there is a
moving picture portraying the adven-
tures of these Italian lovers and one
feels as though the gowns seen at the
opera and at big events todav were
planned alter seeing the unrolling of
those films.
Dropping Louis Qulnie.
The I.ouis Quinze and l.ouis Scire
styles aie so utterly out of the picture
today that one is rather amazed to see
Mrs. Vernon CaHe dressed after this
manner in her new and much heralded
moving picture Called I'atria.
W ith that unusualness whidi sur-
rounds most of the things the Castles
do the premiere of this picture was
given in the ballroom ot the Kit arl
ton to invited guests that numbered !
nearly 10(10. It is safe to sav that Rl
percent of the audience were strain
ing their necks to see exat tly what
manner of brilliant new rostumerv Mrs
Castle would advance tor when she
was on the stage even in her salad
days when fhe danced in the Sunshine
fiirl she insistently led a fashion that
most of the young women of the conti-
nent adopted. Hut the audience was
disappointed if it expected anv riches
exhibit of importance or originality
for with the exception of a new kind
of headdress ropied from Marie Odile.
Mrs. Castle remained true to the slles
which she nude fashionable two years
ago. Her ballroom gown was still that
cloud like ropy of the I.ouis Qtiinzc
style with the tight satin bodice whiih
we all know too well.
This leader of fashion for the first
time in her life looked out of the sar-
torial picture when she was contrasted

with the splendor ot the mediaeval

pimiant thoucdit that the costuniery of
h'omeo and Juliet on the boards is in-
finitely more fashionable than the cos

expert in the winter of 191(1.
In truth all of the modem plays on
the stage today are not costumed ac
cording to the present tasinon; it is
possible this came ahout because no
one realized the strength of the medi-
aeval current that had set in and the
designers of clothes went along a rou
