The Hurricane of 2005
By Ben Gaskins Logan
I can feel your suffering and your pain,
I cried when the hurricane came.
I can feel your sorrow and your doubt.
But people will come and help you out.
Give praises to God. He will help you out.
And when I say that. I have no doubt.
So please oh please do not worry,
God will help you out in a hurry.
Hurricane Katrina
By Chessie Martinez
I know you suffer a lot ot pain.
It tore you apart in the hurricane.
I know you are homeless,
But don't feel hopeless.
I know it tore down our Nation.
But don't feel devastation.
I wish I could send you a flower.
I know you have no power.
I wish you the best grace.
I hope you get a new place.
I hope and pray you get through.
I wrote this poem just for you.
Katrina
By TJ Somers
I know you are in pain.
Those huge waves were insane.
I’m sorry this happened to you.
But I don’t know what I can do.
Your heart was crushed, you couldn't cope.
I know it will take time to regain hope.
The thing I wanted to give you,
Is my beloved teddy bear. Boo.
Katrina
By Nikki Melton
1 know there has been a lot of suffering and pain,
Since Katrina, the great hurricane.
That was a great deal of devastation.
And made so much pain in our great Nation.
My heart was tom out.
It was so sad when the hurricane hit,
Everyone was so anguished.
We all felt so crushed.
We want to give you our home.
Or would you like a motor home,
I know the pain you’re going through.
I’m wishing the very best for you.
We live in a world where violance is too common and is
on the front page of papers from coast to coast. Katrina
brought a special kind of violance - nature itself. The re-
sponse of Americans to Katrina victims is most heart-warm-
ing - non more than that of 5th graders in Lexington! We
are vers' proud of their contributions! Editor
Katrina
By Avery Smith
Here is my poem just for you,
To your home in the deep dark blue.
Your home is trashed.
And my heart is smashed.
My teacher told me it hit,
So I took a look inside of it.
I know it's hard for you.
And it pains me too.

the Victory House in Oklahoma City. Below are the poems
that adorned the stuffed animals.
Hurricane Katrina
By Michacla Munsell
1 heard about Katrina the hurricane.
1 thought about all of your pain,
Louisiana and New Orleans have been inundated,
1 think that swimming is over rated.
I know that you are suffering, overpowered with devas-
tation,
I know that one day we will all live in a better Nation.
1 hope it doesn’t tear your heart.
1 bet your houses have fallen apart.
I hope it didn't destroy your life.
Because if it did then 1 would cry,
1 know you are going through a lot of misery,
But don’t let it ruin your liberty.
The devastation is so great.
I could just lie down and faint.
I hope this is not torture.
Because of this horrible weather.
