Tucker is a widower aliout ten

1 for some time jissec< iid cook al tin*
Hotel Perry. She refused his atteiir
i ions and would have nothing to do
with him.
Last ni^ht Tucker fort hied himself
with several drinks of whisky and
ln^ to the house where the woman
made her home, entered without
knocking and asked her if she would
not come outside and talk with him
privately. On l>eintf refused he caught
hold of her arm and attempted to drag
her outside saying she had not treated
him ritfht. She broke loose, from him
and ran into another room when la-
pulled his gun and shot her. the ball
entering his back between theshould-
and is thought to have lodged in
her lungs. The woman atter being
shot jumped into bed with another
woman when Tucker shot the second
time but missed.
He then pn ceeded to his home in
the suberbs of t lie city and took ashot
at an old colored man who is living
with him but. fort unately misssed him
Shortly afterwards he was arrested
at his home by Deputy Ed Stagg, as-
sisted by Abe Hind. He made some
resistance but was finally persuaded
to give up and was at once placed in
jail. We called on him this morning,
but he refused to talk, saying his at-
torney had advised him to say nothing.
The woman is in a very serious con-
dit ion and may die from the effects of
the wound. She has commenced suit
through her attorneys for $1,500 dam-
age against Tucker and has attached
all of his property
There was considerable talk last
evening among some of the colored
people about lynching Tucker but no
attempt was made to carry out the
threat.
While some of the boys were talking
about what they would do with Tuck-
er if they vrot hold of him, Jim Aber-
nathy, who is a brother-in-law of the
wounded woman pulled out a hammer-
less gun of :18 calibre and by some means
discharged it. the ball striking Jack
Hall, at whose house the Harris wo-
man makes her home, in the tlesln
part of the thigh, going clear through
but missing the Ik me. Jack was seen
t his morning but did not seem to be
much worried alx ut himself as he had
not hud his wound dressed. Should
t he woman die. we would probably
have hard work to save Tucker from
the vengeance of his people.
