Description: Photograph of charter member of the Board of Supervisors of the Valliant Soil Conservation District [SCD], William E. Clarkson. Mr. Clarkson pruned all the young pine on his ranch in the fall of 1959 and spring of 1960. It is estimated if all this pine were in one block it would be about 40 acres. Clarkson has shifted from row crops to cattle raising. His overall plan is to shift to tree farming. OK-969-9.

Land Conservation, Management and Utilization

Description: Photograph of an automatic lumber sorter in operation at a saw mill. This sorter conveys and drops lumber in piles according to size and grade. Lumber is sawed at a mill in the forest and hauled to a finishing mil in town. As the lumber is unloaded, it is fed into this sorter which moves it and piles it in the proper place. The lumber is fed into the sorter by two men, thus conserving much time and labor. OK-413-9.
