Photograph of Fred Wood, owner, and Charles Chamberlain, Operator, cutting volunteer oats on a terrace which was not worked down after completion and is obviously steep. This shows that small grain can be harvested on terraces even though they are steep and high. These terraces were built a year ago.

Rock Crusher Grinding Lime

Photograph of a rock crusher operated by the Idabel CCC camp grinding lime to be used as fertilizer on fields of Soil Conservation Service Cooperators. The limestone at this place contains a percentage of moisture which permits its being ground without dust.

The variable width strips are now planted to a winter cover crop of wheat which will be plowed under and planted to sowed cane as a close growing erosion resistant crop.

Overfall is Small Pasture

Photograph of of an overfall in s small pasture gully showing how the water tends to cut in soil unprotected by vegetation. This pasture is coverd with a good sod and the water running off is clear, almost free of silt. An inch of rain fell in half an hour just prior to the taking of this picture.

Water Falling Over a Large Pond Dam

Photograph of water falling over a large pond dam. An adequate spillway was not provided for this dam and excess water must flow over the crest. The dam is cutting and will eventually be ruined. This picture was taken in the rain immediately after an inch of water had fallen in one half hour.

Planting Oats

Photograph of planting oats on the coutour in a terraced field with a deep furrow drill. The first time though the field one end of the drill followed the ridge line of the terrace. Thw other end in the bottom of the water channel. Second time through one end of the drill is still inthe water channel.

Natural Drainage

Photograph of water running in a natural drainage in a well-sodded pasture. This was taken during a hard rain. The water in the grass is running clear showing very little, if any, silt is being carried by this water coming from a good sod. About an inch of rain fell in half an hour prior to the taking of this picture.
