Description: Photograph of Sam Holmberg with pumpkins (corn in background) grown on his farm. Pumpkin crop goes to Erick Band Mothers for purchase of band uniforms. Last year pumpkin crop of 1/4 ac. Produced $185.00 for Holmberg son's senior class which was used for trip to Washington. Holmberg is 1959 Father of the Year in Oklahoma as well as being a supervisor in the North Fork of Red River SCD. Holmberg is an excellent conservation farmer on this 640 ac. farm.

Description: Photograph of Elk City resevoir after a flood. It shows severe outting on backslope of dam. This dam overtopped its entire length before it broke. This picture gives an idea of the amount of water that was flowing over the dam before its break. This flood was caused by a six inch rain that fell in one night, three inches of which fell in 45 minutes. OK-5137.

Description: Photograph of a view of a broken dam from the downstream side. A six inch rain in one night caused the dam to overtop its entire length and finally break. Notice the huge pieces of concrete from the core wall. As facing the wall, they were carried down by water. A large bridge washed through this break. This dam and resevoir, which cost $350,000, silted in 48% in nine years and was soon to be abandoned because its storage capacity was reduced too much for it to be relied upon for the city water… more
