Description: Photograph used for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "Maj. Gen. Clarence L. Tinker, outstanding Oklahoman from Pawhuska, gave Tinker AFB its name. He led a bombing mission against the Japanese fleet during the Battle of Midway on June 7, 1942, and his plane did not return. He was one-eighth Osage Indian, and held the most responsible rank ever awarded a man of his race at the time. (Orig. date of photo is unknown, this is a copy)"
