Description: Photograph of Bermuda grass base pasture from seed developed on formerly timbered land in May 1955. Timber cut off at ground level with a crawler tractor mounted scalloped blade cutter in the fall of 1955. Land prepared in the spring of 1956. Limed according to needs and fertilized with 300 pounds of 4-12-4 per acre and seeded with 2 pounds of hulled Bermuda seed per acre. Seed and fertilizer placed in shallow furrows 18 inches apart. Greenfield Bermuda (2)

Description: Photograph of a nursery plot of Greenfield Bermuda grass planted July 1, 1955. First crop of roots was harvested and used to plant 100 acres in 1956. Fertilizer was applied to grass at the rate of 150 pounds of 10-20-10 per acre. This grass has been grazed since it was planted and it is preferred by cattle over the other types of Bermuda grass.

Description: Photograph of a plot o land was cleared of brush and trees in the fall of 1955 and sprigged to Greenfield Bermuda grass in May of 1956. It was fertilized with 150 pounds of 10-20-10 per acre. Heavy trees and brush were cleared with a bulldozer as recommended by the SCS as a proper land use practice.

Description: Photograph of a series of photos showing the results of airplane spraying of pine and oak. Area sprayed on May 25, 1954. Picture taken on June 10, 1954. Pine showed considerable damage. 50% to 75% of needles showed damage and 50% to 75% if all new growth showed characteristic twist from 244 5 T. All of undesirable undergrowth show damage.

Description: Photograph of pasture establishment following planned conservation treatment for establishing bermuda grass and clover pasture. Bermuda grass roots were planted with a mechanical bermuda grass sprigger available to cooperators of the Latimer SCD on a rental basis. Roots were planted on a well prepared seed bed and fertilized with 150 pounds of 10-20-10 per acre applied in rows at sprigging time, limed according to need.

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Description: Photograph of Bermuda grass seed. The seeding and fertilizing rate was 1/2 pound hulled NK-37 Bermuda seed with 125 lbs. 10-20-10 per acre at seeding time.
