Caption: "ON OCTOBER 1, 1910, THE LOS ANGELES Daily Times building was wrecked by bombs in a labor war, 20 people were killed, 17 injured. John J. McNamara, secretary-treasurer of the Ironworkers' union, and his brother James, were accused of he crime. Samuel Gompers, head of the conservative American Federation of Labor, came to their defense and was photographed standing between them as though vouching for their innocence."
