Field of Sericea Lespedeza

Description: Photograph of a field of Sericea Lespedeza used as a soil builder on soil bank land. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Sericea Lespedeza. Being used as soil builder on Soil Bank Land. James was not ready to go to pasture and land was still suitable for cultivation as mapped by SCS Soils technicians. After a period of years this land will be returned to production of grain and fiber crops or maintained as Sericea meadow for Hickman's cow herd."

Description: Photograph of the excellent condition of a native grass meadow. Note seed heads and amount of regrowth held in hand of Soil Conservation Service [SCS] technician, Lemeul Ball. This is the proper use on a native bay meadow. The regrowth is necessary in order to maintain vigor of the stand. OK-1482-8.

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Description: Photograph of meadow. Proper meadow maintennace will result in regrowth such as this being examined by Soil Conservation Service [SCS] technician, Andrew Costner. The native grass has sufficient regrowth to regain vigor and make seed to be used elsewhere. If top growth is a problem for next year's crop, SCS technicians recommend cutting dead growth in late winter with a rotary mower. This puts mulch on the ground and aids to keep soil and moisture losses low. OK-1482-10.
