Description: Photograph of Victor Lewis (left) and H. Hoffman, Soil Conservation Service [SCS] technician on the right, examining Bermuda grass which is making a vigorous growth in a field of hairy vetch. This was a needle grass field and out of cultivation since 1949 until the hairy vetch was seeded in the needle grass (but without seed bed preparation) and fertilized at the rate of 400 pounds of 0-20-0 fertilizer per acre. Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Description: Photograph of collective terrace outlet which has been sodded to Bermuda grass and fenced for grazing. The outlet was sodded in April, 1948. It is 100 feet wide and when a good cover of grass became established the field was terraced in the fall of 1949. The drainage from 25 acres of terraced land empties on this outlet. Cattle can be seen grazing on the outlet in the background. Class III, Soil Unit. 2. TX-47-599.

Description: Photograph of agricultural terraces. Collective terrace outlet sprig sodded to Bermuda grass in March, 1949 and planted to cotton in May, 1949. Cultivation of cotton results in the cultivation of Bermuda grass. The width of the strip is 160 feet and will be fenced and utilized as pasture after grass is well-established and the terraces are constructed. TX-45, 717.

Description: Photograph of terraced waterway seeded and sodded to Bermuda grass in April 1947. The field on the right empties terraces here and field on the left will do as when it is terraced in the near future. Water finally empties into Spring Creek. Dense stand of grass now carries water safely. Note remains of old gullies gouged out by run off before waterway and terraces were built. Soil Conservation Services technician Hillard Hoffman inspects the grass. TX-44, 813.
